| Give me some ideas please.
I was thinking about modifying a 91/30 hex receiver. I would like to give it a sniper look. What have you done to yours? Any pics? Anything to stay away from(products)? Thanks Pontiacdm

Gandog56 Thanks for the pics. I won't do anything drastic myself. I was just thinking a scope, stock, and bipod of some sorts. All my old stuff is in original condition for the most part. This will be my second old rifle modified a little. Nothing I can't undo and never get rid of original parts. Is there a way to mount a scope closer to the back without drilling anything?

Heres what I did with mine. I drifted off the rear sight assembly and used the existing dovetail grooves to mount a LER scope on. I used some high rise rings. The scope is solid. It sits just above the receiver, and is very comfortable, as LER scopes go, to shoot. The only thing I would like better is a higher power scope, but this will suffice for the time being. The other thing to keep in mind, depending on year, which since it is a hex receiver, it is very likely it is also soldered on as well as pinned. Might need some heat to remove the complete rear sight assembly. There should be 2 pins holding it on as well. It drifts towards muzzle. My Romanian M44 had a cheap mount that replaced the flip up part of the rear sight, and used the base to mount on with two screws. It did not hold a zero at all. I would advise staying away from the cheap aluminum mounts like in the picture. I also would advise NOT buying a similar style muzzle brake, because the small machine bolts nearly sheared off, and who knows what would have happened if I didn't notice it wobbling on the muzzle. So I took the scope off it and put it on my 91/30. If you do want to do a mount on the rear sight, I would look for one that is more solid. I found it sitting a little high, so my cheek wasn't resting as natural as it should on the stock. 1942 Izzy 91/30 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Romanian M44

I didn't. A fellow G&G'er sold it to me as it looks. It is laminated, I don't know its origin.
