There's the thrill of the hunt, be it for game, varmints or that special rifle.

Here's a thread to post some of your great buys from years past (or present)

Be they collectable or not, Excellent shooters or not, when a Mosin speaks and you listen by pulling out the wallet, post it here.

One of my best deals was a 1930 Finned Dragoon from a gun show walk-in at $40.00! Now the stock had been cut down, the buttplate long gone, but no matter when the important parts were there. I added a pre-war 91/30 stock, handgaurd and bands and I was in business. A $300+ rifle for a little over $100.

Another Finn Dragoon came from an estate sale. When I saw the auction bill for a 1920 Russian rifle among other military surplus rifles, I was all in. I was delighted when I saw that it was a Dragoon, although a 1920 infantry rifle would have been neat too. After waiting for the clothes and household items to sell, they finally got to the rifles. All of them sold pretty high but I got the deal of the day on the Dragoon at $160.

The retail stores and gun show dealers used to have refurbed Mosins for $100 or less (some still do-on sale) Just like you, I search through every one to find the gems.

Some that come to mind at these bargain prices;
1953 Hungarian M44 $75
1944 DDR marked M38 $80
M91 junker with handgaurd and rod $85
1942 Izhevsk ex-PEM sniper $90
1928 2-digit serial number ex-Dragoon $90
2- 1943 M44s, one at $90, one at $100
1943 91/59 $90
and for a little more;
1940 excellent M38 $120
1945 like-new M38 $125
A pair of Tikka M91s at $220

Gun show dealers often don't have an appreciation for Mosins in general, Finn Mosins in particular.

There was a dealer with an M27 leaning up against the back of his table. M27s have a distinct forearm cap, so I instantly knew what it was. The dealer looking through a copy of the Blue Book for Gun Values trying to figure out what he had and where to price it I surmised.

Tempted to ask to see the 'Russian rifle', I didn't want to act totally dumb so I asked if the 'Mosin' were for sale. He picked it up and handed it to me and went back to the Blue Book.

The M27 was very nice. 1934 Tikka barrel, great rifling, no pitting, near 100% blue, nice stock. I knew I had to act fast. "Will you take $175 for it?" I offered not wanting to be too low-ball. That was still half the value at the time.

More intense fumbling in the Blue Book. The poor guy had no clue what it was, only what he had in it. "$200" was his response as he laid down the useless blue book. "Cash out the door?" was my counter offer. "Sold" as he pulled out the paperwork to rid himself of the mystery rifle.

M91 Tikka Finn with cleaning rod Austrian Markings, learned of those after the sale, for 90 bucks.

Enfield No 5 Jungle Carbine, Hungarian M44, Yugo SKS all for 275 bucks.

I have a similar story to yours on your M27 find. Was in a pawn shop and wanted to look at a couple milsurp rifles. I wanted to see his K31 he had on the rack. I kinda chuckled to myself and told him which one it was because he just stood there. Way overpriced anyways. He had a couple 91/30s too that were way over priced. So I was about ready to make like a baby... But out of the corner of my eye I saw the Mosin magazine sticking out of a stock. So I said hey let me check that one out. I knew instantly when I saw it what it was, so I wasn't trying to be too excited when I saw it. Unfortunately, it was in a sporterized stock but he took about $20 off of the advertised price, so I was OTD for $140 after tax with my very own M27. He had "unknown" written in all the make, model, year fields on the tag on it. He could have looked at the import stamp too. Despite the stock being cut off, it is still the correct type that was at some point on an M27, whether it was mine or not. I can't make out a tang date on it either. So that is probably my best MN find. My first MN, a 1946 Izzy M44 I bought from my buddy for $75 was a pretty good deal. It still looks like new with a beautiful shiny blue on it. No arsenal refurb stamp on it anywhere I can see.

It would have to be last week's purchase of a 1915 New England Westinghouse for $75.00.

Only been into them for a year now but would have to say my Izzy 91/59 for $125. Just because I got it from Cabelas. Other than that my 91/30 for $90 from a gun show.

Wow you guys are so late to the mosin party.
Howabout $39.00 chinese type 53's,.. $69.00 Finn M91's or those special and wayyy overpriced M39's at $79.00 these are all RETAIL prices with all you can eat Ammo for six cents a round.
The brand new unfired soviet 1946 M44 with a tin of ammo for $100.00 RETAIL!!!!
look guys back in the sixties mosins where packed in 55gallon barrels and sold for $6.00
each.
lee endfields where $16.00 mail order
There are still MILLIONS of Mosin Nagants in storage in Russia right now.
so dont worry buy all you want, theres plenty.

Two M44's from a guy at a show who sold for fun (he had his FFL). I got them for $35 or $40 each I think. I know they were under $50. They are beat up but only a little rust under the stock.

Finn Mosin Model 39 for $129 in 1999. It has a Hex Tikka receiver with double headed eagle of Czar Nicolas II, 1942 dated B-barrel in pristine, perhaps unfired condition, and arctic birch stock with dovetail construction. I just had to order a $35 faux blade bayonet too since I couldn't afford the real deal.
