It is generally accurate either way. However, point of aim and point of impact usually change @ 100 yds whether it is extended or not. For example, my 1946 Izhevsk M44 will shoot a bit to the left @ 100 yds, but with the bayonet extended, its spot on. Typically, the M44s the Russians produced were zeroed from the factory with the bayonet extended. Looks like you might have to have a range report and let us know what yours does

+1 it doesn't effect accuracy. only point of impact. six inches to the left at 100 yds without it on my rifle.

as state above the rifles were sighted in at the factory with the bayonet extended. iv shot several different m44s and they all shot a bit to the left with the bayonet closed. if you hunt with it you might want to adjust the sight with the bayonet closed. i don't think the DNR would like it to much to see you walking through the woods with it extended. they are good guns and fun and cheap to shoot. when at the range bring some oil with you as the bolt sometimes dosen't like to cycle.

I never shoot my M44 with the bayonet folded back, its spot on with it extended, better than my 91/30 even

If you want to carry it to hunt, you can take the bayo off and drift front sight for POA and POI. Make it a little bit lighter if you don't have one of the carbines without a fixed bayo.

Like everybody said, accuracy is probably no different. Unless you mean does it hit where the sights are set. And that would depend on whether they were set with the bayonet on or off. Probably the only Mosin I have where the sights are set for bayonet on or extended is my M44. It shoots low and to the left with the bayonet not extended, but the group size is exactly the same.

I have a question about hunting with an M44.... is it illegal to hunt with the bayonet attached? I sent an email to the Minn DNR and never received a response...
