I consistently had this problem with my ATR in .270, and ended up getting rid of it for almost what I paid to a pawn shop that had never seen one. I didn't like the rifle at all, it always felt sloppy, and didn't seem to shoot consistently either. I've got a rem. 770 now and love it, I don't think anything could put me back to the ATR. I like mossberg, love my 500, but that rifle was just the worst thing I ever used. IMHO....

I just got a synthetic ATR 100 combo (scope, mount, rings) in .30-06

Will be taking it out this weekend, can't wait!

oh btw, what scopes have you people used to replace the one the combo co mes with???

I'm thinking from everything I've read about this gun that a nice $100 scope would really make it a keeper! THx!

Hey guys, um so im like way new to this like literaly i just made this account about 5 minutes ago lol. But i had some questions cuz im gonna buy my first rifle and i figured if anybody could answer them it would be you guys. So here it is. Im gonna buy my first deer rifle and im thinkin im gonna get the ATR 100....reason being im 14 and dont feel like spending ATON on a deer rifle that is just gonna get me by for a few years till i can afford some nuclear grade super-win-rem-hornad-mag. So im thinkin ATR 100 is that a good gun?

Next question, my dad has a 30-06 and i shot my first deer 2 years ago at 350 yards with it and killed it in one shot, didnt even move. But one of my buddies is tryin to convince me into the .308....i know they are pretty much the same but what would you get? .308 or 30-06? who has either and what do you like about them? any advantages for either? I will be shooting Mule Deer, Black Bear, and Elk. I live in Idaho so some elk can get pretty big ya know. Anyways thanks in advance guys. Just lookin fer some wisdom talk to ya later

AUSTIN THE BEST THING TO DO IS GET THE BEST YOU CANSO YOU CAN SELL IT LATER IF NESSERYTO UPGRADE OR JUST SAVEUP TO GET A GOOD RIFLE AND SCOPE BUY QUILTY ONCE OR JUNK SEVERAL TIMES DONT GO CHEAP ON THE SCOPE YOU CANT GET A GOOD SCOPE FOR $100 IMHO AT LEAST I HAVENT. I HAVE HAD BEST LUCK WITH WEAVER OR LEUPOLDS
THE PLANING AND THE WAITING MAKES BETTER
THE CAL YOU MIGHT LOOK AT ARE A 270 (MY PICK )THE 3OO6 OR SOME OTHERS LIKE THE
7-08 308 .
I SUGEST 2 THINGS
GO TO THE RANGE AND LOOK MOST SHOOTERS WILL LET YOU LOOK AND EVEN TRY THERE GUNS IF YOU ARE NOT A PAIN
YOU MIGHT LOOK AT A O6 SO YOU AND YOUR DAD CAN RELOAD TOGEATHER
AND MAKE REAL SURE YOU SAVE THE BRASSIT IS 50%OF THE COST OF AMMO

So is the ATR 100 a good gun then? I think i am for shure decided on the .30-06 but i got introduced to a new gun today i think its like a marlin XL7 or somethin. they come in a 30-06 and are around the same price. which is the best gun? and thanks fer the advice testhop. Im not lookin for way long shots either, just a gun that can land me in the lungs of a deer or elk at maybe 3 or 400 yards at the LONGEST.

dont get the mossberg its not of very good quality i would get the marlin i own a 100ATR and it miss fires all the time because the bolt is so loose. the bolt handle moves real easily and when it isnt down all the way it will miss fire mine did that when it was brand new i dont think i shot 5 boxes of shells through it yet since ive had it for 3 years

for a gun that ain't no good they sure fly off the shelves of every store. infact if you go to a store that sells them and ask for one your probably gonna get a answer like well we don't have any more in stock right now but we will be getting some more in soon

I got the combo in 3006 the scope is fine if your going to shoot 2-300 yds max. Its pretty basic scope. If you hunt alot honestly I would go buy just the rifle and get some good weaver rings and a decent bushnell scope. Until you can afford somthing better in the future. But the factory scope is decent enough to get you through if thats all you can afford. I use the factory scope cause most my shots are 1-200 yds anything farther then that in my opinion is not wise where I live anyways.

Do you like how ure .30-06 shoots? i called 4 stores that carry them and they we're all out of stock today. And one of them got a new shipment in and i called and they said it had been there 2 hours and all they had left was a 243. i was pretty pissed. It turns out im gettin one for $250 with no scope so what is a good scope fer the money? i always herd the glass is just as or more imortant than the gun so i dont really wanna buy a crappy scope. anyways thanks fer the input thanks guys

Id say the 3x9x40 bushnell sportsman or elite the sportsman bieng the cheaper of the 2 but is a good scope. rings warne rings bieng the best leapold, bushnell, simmons etc. will all work. Make sure they are high enough though they have diferent sizes. I also found out the factory scope that comes with the mossberg is a tasco world class 3x9x40. Good luck!

well after almost 2 years of havin the .270 atr 100 i finally went shoot it today. and my opinion is i want more calibers . i love this gun i don't know if a .308 will kick harder than a .270 but man this .270 don't kick at all and the scope i put on it is nice .now i just was out poppin bullets at bottle in the bayou but it was cloes to being dead on at 75 yards but then again the bullet pretty much blew a freakin 12"hole in the mud so i really can't say if i hit the bottle or not but it sure wasn't there after i shot thats for sure. i was shooting some reminton coreloc. don't no what gran didn't check. but like i said i wanna get some other calibers in this rifle .

i just bought 4 boxs of silver tip ammo so i am gonna use that to set the scope with. i still can't believe the little recoil of the .270 i was thinkin it would have a wallop but it's not as bad as the ak'47 not it is loader i will say that.

I have owned an ATR100 in 270 cal and its the most accurett Rifle I own. My best shot to date was a 237 yard heart shot, slpit the heart in 3 pieces. Distance was verified by a range finder. The doe never took a step just dropped right there. Scope was a Tasco 3-9x40. Ammo was remington 150gr. PSP. Jimi

i'm a believer in the .270 in the accuracy of it. to me that bullet should be a killer out to atleast 400/500 yards easy. i wanna try putting a bipod on my atr100 now too.i forgot what kinda scope i got on mine i think its a 4x15x50 bushnell banner.

Its the most accurate gun I have. I am going to put better glass on it. Its really upsetting because my $600.00 Remington SPS cant come close to the mossy in accuracy Jimi
