I have a ATR that I bought off my nephew so he could buy a savage. It shoots ok I guess but after 2-3 shots heats up and changes POI about 3-4 inches, also have a little issue with magazine jams, have to be really sure the rim of top round is in front of bottom round. for 130$ not bad, but I much prefer my rem700, even though it was about 4x that. I don't mind paying for quality! I gave it to my wife LOL

Someone mention about the trigger pull on there atr 100,Rifle basix's sells fully adjustable triggers for the atr's that don't have the lighting triggers. It's about $130.00 includes shipping and processing. I have one in 270 win and handload my own ammo with 140gr nosler ballistic tip and i get 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 in group at 100 yards. I love my rifle dearly. Larry

I own one in 270 win, would not trade it for love or money. It's a tackdriver with nosler's B.T bullets and H 4831 powder. Thinking of getting one from my local pawnshop in 30-06.

Mine actually has a holo on it. It mounts right on the front Weaver scope mount. Mine has the adj trigger also. It's in .308. The newer guns have a longer front Weaver scope mount on them. They have two slots on the mount as opposed to the one slot. This gives you lots of room to mount a red dot sight on it.

The red dot works great. If you move your head a little while looking through the sight, the red dot appears to move. It really doesn't. It's an optical illusion. The gun always shoots where the dot is! It's my 350.00 version of a SOCOM 16! Mine is a BSA made red dot. It's the one with the red dot that can be adjusted for size of dot. Don't get the one with the different recticals you can dial in. The point of impact changes with the change of recticals...I have heard. It's a BSA PDMS. Bought at Cheaper than Dirt for 50.00.

Many thanks for the posts on the ATR-100. I've been looking into a good bolt action, in either 270 or 30.06, for a few years now and the Mossberg is one that I've been eyeing closely during the past several months. I happened to see one in 30.06 at the local Wal-Mart for $247.00 (no scope).

i own a 100atr 30-06 and as far as kick goes it thumps rather hard because it weighs so little. i love my rifle picked it up for 300 at local shop. it shoots relly tight groups at 100 yards mostly under 3/4 of an inch when using a vise. i put a 3x9x50 simmons blazer on it for 40 bucks and have dropped three deer in their tracks including a sixteen inside spread eight pointer .no problems in three years.

hey atr

all right to all of you wondering about the mossy ATR 100. I have one in the black synthetic stock to be honest with you its what your flavor is so that doesnt matter. the bolt action is very smooth i havent hunted with it yet but will be doing so soon. i have a scope on it which has left my memory at this time but it shoots well and is a good build for the price and mossberg is of good quality i am not a mossy fanatic but it does everything i need it to. if you all want anymore reviews on it let me know. o the kick on any synthetic stock is going to be hard hitting since its not as heavy as the wood stock.

Breaking in your ATR

Guys
If you want to do this right and have a weapon that is very accurate,
and easy to keep clean. Here is the method ,I have used on all my rifles for the last 26 years.
1: Go to Wally World and get the proper brush and cleaning patches.
2: Find the cheapist FACTORY ammo you can get, or your own realods.
3: Make sure the bore is clear and clean.
4: Place targets at 50 yrds ..NOTESighting and Break in can be done
at the same time.)
5:Load 1 round and fire
6:Pull bolt
7:1 pass threw bore from the breach with brush
8:1 pass threw bore frome the breach with patch
9: Replace Bolt
10: load and fire 1 round
11:Repeat steps 5 threw 9 until you have fired 10 rounds
12: Then do the same thing but now you fire 5 shot between cleaning
13: Firing 4 groups of 5 total (20 rounds)
14: Now groups of 10....till you reach a grand total of 100 combined
At the end of all this you will have filled the micoscopic holes in the bore and lapped the rifleing and your rifle will love you for it

man i just buy a 50 round or 100 round box of ammo take that sucker out to the fireing range and pop off a few rounds at a time till i got her sighted and the box of ammo is gone then i look at the person i'm with and say damn this is a nife f'in gun and we then laod up and go home . later that night i give her a good cleaning and call it a day. oh i do clean and oil the gun before i ever shoot it just to make sure it's functional and all the parts are there and lubed.

I guess you could do that too

Some people are happy with a 10 inch group at 300 yrds
I on the other hand like to buy the best rifle I can for the money I have
Break it in like all the best Barrel manufactures say you should.
And shoot 2 inch groups at 300 yrds
I have worked in a gun smith shop for the last 20 years of my life and have re-barreled several hundred Rifles.
I have heard it all....My brother did it ....sure I made sure the bore was clean ...It just blew up.....I only lost 1 finger....I can't hit the side of a barn with this.. You can shoot .308 out of a 30-06 you just gota push out the shell with a stick..
This was my first and maybe my last post on this site
People come to a place like this to learn...not every one has been gettin a box of ammo and poundin out some rounds... all there life.
Well ..maybe someone learned something, and just maybe their new ,ATR will be broke in like it is supposed to be!

i never said i blow the whole box without stoppin there are breaks in between loadings and when we shoot the bull but i never had a problem with acuracy on any of my guns. no need to get all uptight. i never heard of a gun barrel blowing up cause it wasn't broke in right?? if a barrels blows up it's more than likely the barrel was clogged or it passed by a sleeping inspector on the manufactureing line.

4,722 posts ..when do you find time to shoot? Sorry i got ..as you said up-tight. I was trying to help that person who has never owned a high power rifle new or used ...good or a p.o.s. Every one should be proud of what they have. And take the best care of it, that they can.
And over the years i have learned that a proper break in will give you better acuracy and consistancy for years to come

Barrel obstructions are the responsibility of the shooter and him alone
never shoot a rifle that has not been checked for barrel obstructions

from all my shooting days that the only thing that will make a barrel fail is a clogged barrel with a squib in it or someone loaded a very hot round into a gun. as for as taking a new gun out to shoot it without cleaning it first thats a big no-no even an old gun needs to be checked before shooting. but to me your trying to say is if i take my gun out and break it in my way that it's not gonna be as acurate as your gun and thats faulse info. unless you go out to the range with a brand new gun and heat that barrel up til it's grey i don't think your gonna mess with acuracy at all. the way i shoot a new gun is i clean it then i take it out to shoot most time it's 100 rounds or under i pop off a few "10"maybe and then i walk out to the target to see whats happening. i then walk back to the gun and fire a few more i do this until i have the gun set and i am satisfied with the hits on the target. now in between those 10 shots there is a 15 minute break of like i said walking out to inspect the target and walking back and making adjustments so it's pretty much fire 10 rounds and take a 10/15 minute break by that time the gun has had enough time to cool down a bit. breaking in a gun is like breaking in a car engine everyone has their own method. the sad part is most time the manufacture is the wrong way and the owners own way is better. i see it in the utv's and atv's when someone breaks in something by babying it for a few hours and then havin fun with it they ussually fry some rings and the engine doesn't last as long as the guy who takes his out and rides it like he stole it. i done been ther and done that and i find that if you use it like you want and keep up the regular cleaning and fluids that it will outlast a pampered one same with guns shoot it like you stole it but just make sure you clean it after and you won't have any problems.

WHAT DAS IT DAS ALL YOU GONNA SAY IS GOOD LUCK??? WE WAS HAVIN A GOOD ARGUEMENT OVER THIS AND YOU GO AND TRY TO LEAVE!!! lmao juss messing with ya !! hank all i was saying is as long as you don't fry the barrel and let it cool for a few minutes in between shooting and then clean it after every shooting you should be fine. now to me what your methods almost sounds like is a competition sorta thing where i think it would be a great idea to run a patch through the barrel after evey few shots to me yes that would help out on groups abut not doing it won't make it go way out if your hunting.. i think the only way to ruin a new gun is to goout and just run round after round through it and not have any cool down time. now being a metal fabricator i do know that if you heat something up to many times it's gonna give or malfunction . so i don't really sugest getting any rifles barrel to the grey color heat stage to many times.
