If you go to mossberg.com and click on their new 2009 catalouge and then click on buyers guide (it is like 8.22mb) you'll see the new 2009 464 has an available pistol grip with cut checkering, sure is pretty. Makes me want a 30-30 again. Mossberg also has new "savage" type adjustable triggers on their bolt action 4X4 (pg 3) and 100 ATR (pg6) rifles, dubbed the LBA "lightning bolt action": look pretty sweet

The new Mossberg looks very much like the Winchester 94 but has a ring around the bolt making it stronger. In some ways it also reminds me of a Marlin 336. I am anxious to see the .22 version but so far I have not even seen a picture. I like .22 rifles but it seems that most anymore are cheep autos or higher end bolt actions. That is why I look for 40-50 year old pumps or livers. Stan

I have seen reports on other sites that the extractor on the 464 is flimsy and can break in a few as two or three rounds.

I did a search and found one forum where a few guys had extractor breakage. The one guy compared his to his dad's and said the extractor on his dad's seemed way more durable. The guys who had problems, seemed to have low serial numbers also. Hopefully this was just a manufacturing problem and not a design flaw. I recently read a review where the shooter said his average group was like 1.5" out of 5- 5shot groups so he obviously got 25 rounds through. I personally have never held one and would like to see one for possible future purchase, but I don't want one if this ends up being more of a design issue than a part issue that wasn't made right on certain serial runs. Any 464 shooters here that can chim ein ??

Nice

I like it. I saw the write-ups in Gun Digest and another mag. But I bought a Henry this past fall, so I will probably stay with it. The 30-30 should be a winner. I had a 336 Marlin years ago, and wish I still had it. It was a deer slayer. Moved on to a Savage 110 LH for more versatility. I like the 35 Remington too. It is a whale of a cartridge. My brother-in-law had one in .35 and it would tote the mail. I have a pair of Can. Cent.s 94s that I have never shot. Probably never will, but I still get them out from time to time and exercise the levers just for the heck of it. :d VH

I'm the guy who has one and compared it to my father's... I got the extractor replaced, and now it's shoots durn good!

52 Rounds on its first outing.

I put 6 in the tube and 1 in the chamber and shot this little group at 25 yards. It shoots good enough for me!

Light, handy, durable, and decently accurate. Perfect little rifle, if you ask me. Mossberg reps at the 2009 SHOT Show confirmed the extractor problem and also said it has been fixed. I can confirm this is also the case for the one fixed for me.

Just wonder how smothe the action is? And how it compares to a model 88 Win., a Browning BLR, or a Henry? I know I don't like the feel of a Marlin action at all!

"Wally" can get them for $350. Soon as I sell a couple of "no longer neededs", I'll have one in littleman's closet! I've seen one last year; it was impressive.

Looks like a fine weapon and a design improvement on the 94. I want one.

i have the 464 and it shoots quite well feels a lot like my friends winchester in 30-30.
i put a cabelaws scope on it with leverevolution ammo it makes 1 inche groups at 75 yards. bought it because i had been waiting for several years to find a nice used winchester but none came into the local gunshop so i saw this one on sale at big 5 for $400 so i grabbed it.
it is a good gun i would use it for deer out to 200 yards.

I stopped by Big 5 today and hefted (is that a word?) a 464. Darn nice balance! I like the feel better than the Winchester that my father-in-law used. That somehow felt like an iron brick. I don't know why, but this felt more 'natural' to the shoulder. It's on my short list when on sale again at Big 5, or maybe my local shop will match that price when I bring in the ad. I have to believe the gunstock folk will come out with up-graded wood soon enough too.
