Angry pump jammed!

Hello , I bought a maverick pump shootgun, model 88 by mooseburg. haven't shoot it much over the past year. Now deer season is coming up and it is getting jammed up halfway when i try to pump it to load another shell. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? How can I fix it?

I assume you have broke it down to see if you can see anything broken or missing if nothing is broken/missing. Clean it really well. Try different ammo, this is curious though because pump shotguns are really reliable and in my experience not very picky with ammo. If you can post a picture of the gun with the jam it can help alot.

Work the empty action dry for a couple of minutes and then lightly oil the insides. Work the action 2 or 3 minutes more, fairly fast.
Clean out the action and lightly oil again then load the magazine, being careful work the action at a steady rate until empty...Let's hope it does'nt jam while doing this.

Haveing had my Maverick apart it sounds like the elavator that lifts the shell up to the chamber is mess'in up or not lifting all the way to the chamber so don't force it !!! Just yet...

Is the elavator or the thing thats goes up and down when you work the action working properly when the gun is UN-loaded ?

With the action closed is the elavator perfectly nestled and horizonal under the bolt ?

If so nothing is bent pertaining to the elavator that lifts and alighns the shell to the chamber.

Now are you sure it's clean in the reciever ? If not clean it up and then do the ABOVE and it would'nt hurt to leave one shell out of the magazine for now.

Maybe your action needs to wear in some before you sen it to get fixed or you attempt to fix it yourself.
So try for now what I've suggested and then we'll go from there. Also is the gun used ?

Let us know...A.H

O.K. I'm back...I just repeated loading 5 ea. 3" magnums in my Maverick and they cycled perfectly.

As I recycled it I watched for areas that might cause the action to Jam.

I found a possibility so far...When you push the release at the trigger and pull back on the forearm a shell oviously shoots out of the magazine onto the elavator.

As you work the forearm the extractor on the Bolt will soon engage the shotgun shell as it rides up.
But there is a Period "before" the extractor "engages" the shotgun shell.

To make it easy for me to explain the shell is just laying on the elevator rideing upwards to a point and then the extractor grabs the shell.

So...believe it or not the extractor has to engage the shell for it to load...If the extractor has something wrong with it, I can see it jamming because when the extractor grabs the rim of the shotgun shell it also pulls the shell into alighnment with the bore or chamber. Thats the key.

That elavator thing does not do all the work I just found out so put that extractor to work by doing a lot of re-loading and un-loading the gun and see if it wears in some.

Be mindful the bolt has 2 extractors and they may not be working in unison

Good Luck...A.H

P.S. If this ain't the problem then we know it's something else and if so we'll figger on it somemore.
