| Senior Member | Super Daughter came and shot the 1858 remmy well. My daughter came for a visit and we went cap and ball pistol shooting. she did very well. I installed a new much taller front sight. that helped my uberti immeasurably I just love it when a repair idea comes together and truly improves the performance of a fine machine. It went from hitting 15 to 18 inches high at 50 feet to being almost dead on point of aim at the same distance. I can hold a group less than 3 inches across, free handed, with 30 grains of pyrodex "P" fffg a wonderwad and a .454 round ball. Its taken a while to get that good. Super daughter did almost as well her first time. she must have some good jeans, (I bought them for her when we went shopping) has anyone had simular story?

| Registered User | Have the same problem with my '58 Remington, Uberti. Shoots about 18 inches high at 25 yds.Was wondering what sight did you use to get it to shoot point of inpact? Want to shoot mine for an NRA qualification. I use 20 grains of 777 and 20 grains of filler with very good results |

| Moderator ![]() | I thought this was a problem only on the Colt Repros. My 1851 and 1860 guns shot very high, til I put on some higher blade sights. Now they are dead on at 25 yards. Better sight picture too, and I can do two inches on a good day. Good sights make all the difference! :gangster:

| Senior Member | 44 User I got a dovetail front sight post, I silversoldered it straight on to the top of the barrel. I dont know how strong its going to be but its holding for now. The base is about an 1/8th of an inch plus the front sight post. I have heard that the Remmy sights are supposed to be for long range like a hundred yards. I think its bullchit Ill bet there is a rifle sight front blade insert that would work on this application somehow. If someone made a replacement ramped front sight blade or post, of adjustable hight, for the thousands and thousands of 1858 Remington pistols out there, they would sell a bunch of them. Mmmmmm
