replacement barrel for CVA? or just a new rifle?

I have a CVA Hawken .50 caplock. The barrel is 1:48 and shoots decent, but i was wondering about getting other barrels for it. Preferably bigger calibers, maybe a smoothbore, any ideas are appreciated. CVA was very helpful in emails, until i asked about buying another barrel from them, havent gotten a response since. Anyways, i looked at various sites, and had my hopes up about Green Mountain, until i noticed that most places say their products wont fit a CVA. Think i should keep trying, or just save a few bucks here and there til i have enough saved for something better built than that CVA? Thanks.

Hmm, rebarreling is probably only cost effective if the old barrel's shot. In this case I'd say a new rifle would be the way to go. More variety and a gun definitely made for your caliber of choice.

BRG,
I have been itching for a flinter, but you know how that goes. There's want, and then there's afford. If i do end up saving for one and getting a new rifle, it'll probably be a Lyman Great Plains Rifle .54 flint-lock. The CVA is fun and it shoots ok, but it's not up to par with heavy loads or at longer ranges--half way useless past 75yds. Didnt i read somewhere on here that you shoot flint? Maybe i can get some ideas/suggestions on both this current CVA, and possibly other suggestions on other rifles some people on here may have experience with. Fire away, y'all.

My flintlock experience is with the historical musketry, ie Revolutionary War Era. I used to laugh at the stainless synthetic ones in the store. Now I know that there's such a thing as muzzleloading season and that rifles that get used for actual accurate hunting need to be kept cleaner than our muskets which were not very accurate to begin with.

Hitting an 12inch target at 200 yards was not uncommon for the American rifleman in 1776.
Not saying I could do it.....
Just saying......

Key word - Rifleman. Not infantryman.

The rifles vs muskets then were like sniper rifles vs submachineguns now. High rate of less accurate fire vs low rate of accurate fire.

Musketballs were of smaller diameter than the bore. They would bounce back and forth before exiting. This was for faster loading, also for clearance for cartridge papers and fouling.

Get on the phone and call Track of the Wolf.

If it was me, I'd do that after I called CVA.

Well, still have several unanswered emails that went out to CVA and i'm thinking i might not hear drom them unless i call them and dont give them the chance to ignore email. Who wants to bet i'll get either a bad runaround or just hung up on? At least that's what i'm starting to expect at this point. Bountyhunter, i think you just may have the right idea. TOTW has a LOT of good stuff. Midsouthshooters has some good prices. Either way, i might have to bite the bullet and just not deal with CVA anymore if i keep being ignored.
