A heavier bullet is longer

Before we start, I'm talking about target distances, not hunting.

I need some advice. I'm working with 470 gr. T.C. Maxi Hunters in my NEF SB2 with a SS 24 inch huntsman barrel. I like the "pick 'em up 'n put 'em down" qualities of the heavy bullet. I took a nice buck with it in December. Dropped him where he stood.

Shooting this bullet with 2 triple 7 50 gr. pellets. It seems to hit only about 12 to 14 inches lower at 300 yards than its parent rifle, the .45-70 SB2 with Hornady's Leverevolution cartridge. (Which has made the .45-70 one of my favorites). I'm eager for most of the snow to get off our range so I can shoot, but I want to throw the third tripple seven 50 down the barrel and see what it does.

The 470 maxi seems extremely accurate at 300 yards. I'm not the best marksman...I'm old, but even I keep them in a pie plate (maybe a big one!!) at that distance. I believe a younger hand and eye could do much better.

I guess that brings us to the point. The heavier bullet is longer. Does it have a better ballistic coefficient than a smaller sabot or conical bullet? Is it inherently more accurate.
