| Sounds like a good deal to me. Keep it with round balls at about 75-90 grains and you've got a nice deer rifle! Percussion or flint lock? Just don't load her over 100 grains. Its a nice gun, wish I had one.

| If you get any of the inline ML,s on the market today, there are plenty of loading, fireing, and cleaning instructions with them to see you through. There are numerous books on ML,ing, and you can always come here for specific questions. I would reccomend a stainless steel,as they are much easier to maintain. sam. I really goofed on this one.If your Kentuckey rifle is original it is a 1in60" twist, limiting you to round balls and moderate loads of black powder or the equivelent.&0gr,s is a ballpark figure. sam. | Wayne, I have owned a Traditions 54 caliber percussion rifle for many years. I have deer hunted and hog hunted with mine. I have enjoyed great success with it. My rifle shoots best with the .530 patched round ball. I use a 90gr charge. I shoot, Goex Black Powder. With your rifle I suggest starting with a low powder charge and work your way up. Like centerfire rifles, you have to find the right bullet they like or shoot best. As with Black Powder rifles you will need to try different loads to see what your rifle likes best. I have been shooting these rifles for more than twenty years now. I have a 45 caliber Pennsylvania rifle and a 58 caliber Hawkens. If I can be of any help, I will be glad to help you with any questions you might have. Between myself and members of my Black Powder club, I probly can find you an answer. Welcome to BP shooting...Bigman |

| The Traditions Kentucky has 1:66 rifling. That's a patched round ball(PRB) barrel. It wont do well with conicals. With the right ball and patch combo it should do really well up to 100 yds. but I wouldn't push it past that. A .490 ball and a .015 patch with around 70 grs. of powder should be a good starting point. I assume you're going with a percussion lock for a firstr rifle. If you're going with flint it won't do well with subs unless you put a little real bp in first and use FFFFG for a priming powder.
