It is now in Indiana. The Mowrey that I had fixed had the parts ordered from them. They are slow according to my smith, but they do get things done for you if you contact them. I did sell mine, but it sure was a pretty gun.

Hey bro.
If its the same mowrey that I have stamped in the side of a ruger redhawk custom I'm fixing to pick up in a couple of weeks is a fella (not big like les baer or ed brown mind you, but his custom smithin DOES find its way beyond 1911s) who customized a lot of different firearms.
I have a gun dealer buddy who I have been dealing with for YEARS and he has thr redhawk 4" model lying in a box tucked away from the world and his ambitions lean more toward .44 automags, automatic berettas, and other pretty serios mods that make a normal gun a house leveler.
I told him I was looking for a nice 4" .44 mag and he said "John, I have JUST the piece for you" now I am getting a smoking deal on it but again, he has shut down his shop, moved his business to his home and pursues different ambitions. So he is letting me have thr ?owrey redhawk for a real good -guy price.
But mowrey was pretty well known around the new mexico region ( as were 90% of american outlaws) and he is best known from what I keep hearing for customizing rifles. A few 1911s and refolvers aside.
But don't blow it off. He IS a known smith and he IS pretty well renowned for what he has done

Where did you find the parts for your gun?

The phone number that I had (its been over 2 years now) (765) 525-6181. This is a Mom and Pop operation that buys out old and obscure gun parts and markets them. No website that I know of. I sent all my paperwork along with the gun to its new owner that had part numbers and prices. I do know that spring, some screws, and the actual smith work itself came up to $98.00. In my case it was worth it because I only paid $20 or $25 for the gun and turned around and sold it for about $100 profit.

Springs are probably available from Deer Creek Products in Waldron Indiana, you'll have to google for an address and number. They aren't producing the finished rifles any longer to labor and time restraints but the parts should be available. Also purchase the little link ring, or perhaps a few. The link and spring is about all there is that might break or get lost. Been there

hi there. well i also have a 1776 Bicentennial 50 cal made by mowrey gun works down in olney tx were i lived for 24 year's. i new the man who put together the gun production company there. his name is bill mowrey. as far as i know he lives in Iowa park Texas just west of Wichita falls TX. he and his brother were machinists and were very good when it came to making black powder guns. they also made different caliber rifle's and pistol's. they manufactured 50 cal cannons also. barrels made from stainless steel. they did most everything from cutting the rifling to making all the parts.i think they moved back to Iowa park during the 1970s, they retired and sold out. i happen to buy a 50 cal Bicentennial from a friend of mine who worked for them. the rifle cost me like 200 $$ the stock is made out of sold cherry, the metal was sold brass except the barrel was harden blue steel. i sure wouldn't take 200$$ now for it. i took it to a gun show several years back and was offered 1000$$ i said no think you. it really has a good feel and i love to shoot it when i have the time. you might call information in Iowa Texas and get bill mowrey phone #. he would gladly help you out. good luck to you.

How could I have missed this thread??? I have a Mowrey Hawk sitting in my gun cabinet, that I have had for over thirty years. I repaired the spring myself, and really enjoyed shooting it at black powder meets, in California. Mine also has the brass action, and an awesome 32 inch barrel. I seem to remember doing some research, and they were called buggy guns, if my tired memory is correct. There were a couple of variations, and lengths. Wow, I think I'll just leave mine right where it is!
