Any Info for Mowrey .54 Cal?

Hi all. Trying to get some info on a new/old black powder gun I bought today. I do not recognize it anywhere online except by its name. Here are some pics. It looks nice for the $20 I got it for - It seems like I will only have to fix the trigger spring, unless its a hard part to find. It has 54 Mowrey stamped on the hammer side, and a serial number on the other. Besides it being a .54 cal can anybody help me out with info or where to get it and how to fix the trigger? What is something like this worth - is it a shooter/hunter or something I should keep in the pristine condition it is? The owner was cleaning out his dad's house and was selling things for what ever cash he could get. Thanks in advance.

Its definately a shooter . If it is a REAL "Mowrey Gun Works" Mowrey , then it is a very nice Mowrey and Mowrey style rifle . They are out of bussiness though , sorry .
Lots of the custom gun guys can make you those parts, and it would certainly be worth the cost to get the gun up and running . These guns were SEVERAL hundred dollars and are fine guns . Also try Numrich Gun Parts Company , they very well may have them in stocks still too , parts that is . Also try VTI , they carry some of that stuff too .
I think that is Mowreys Ethan Allen style rifle you have, but I can't say for sure ???
Whatever it is , your $20 was the deal of the Century !!!! Just the Stock alone being fancy Maple is worth allot of money , trust me . The owner that sold it to you had NO IDEA what he had . Bonus !!!!!

1-866-NUMRICH is there number .

That thing is SHARP! I have never seen anything like it before. Why can't the $20 gun fairy stop by my place once in a while? How long were these made? The 2 piece stock is beautiful.

From what I remember way back in my FUZZY brain pan , Mowrey sold his company to Deer Creek Rifle Works , why I don't remember though ? I also remember looking at the same rifles as the pics in my Gun Digest back in the 1970's so they have been around a awhile . My friend had the Squirrel Rifle model , in .32 caliber , and it was one fine shooting animal . I do remember they were allot of money back then , way out of my price reach as a youngster , but I always wanted one anyway . I had a Hopkins and Allen Underhammer Squirrel Rilfe at that time and his rifle could shoot circles around it . The barrels on the Mowreys were legendary , I do know that much and he sold them to other small companys for their guns too , custom guns that is . I have seen several percussion rifles through the years that have sported Morwey barrels on them from custom gunmakers .

GODOGZ must have some really good Kharma !!!!! $20 , now that's good Kharma . Look at his name though and break it on down " GOD-ogz " Hmmmmmmm ???? Lucky bast*** !

just fortunate to pick up a good value, i do still need to fix the trigger spring. not too savvy on repairs. i tried to put the current spring back on, but it must have a flat spot, because it fell apart again after cocking trigger. will take it to a local smith and see what they have to say. thanks for all the info provided. wish i could find a manual for this rifle.

Hee hee hee , I wish I was a prethora of knowledge . Just been fascinated with guns , all guns , since early in my childhood . Fortunate to have a Dad that was a part time pro Gunsmith and still is . I got Gun Digest and Shooters Bible for presents for X-Mas since I was 8 years old . That should tell you how bad I have it ????? Shot my first gun at 4 , yes Dad helped hold it , the Mighty Parker Hale double barrel in 16 guage . I shot a stump with it at 30 feet I would say , I was hooked ever since . That one gun started it all . The exposed hammers , the beautiful damascus steel barrels and the fancy walnut and color case hardening , man what a beautiful gun . OH , AND THE POWER !!! It was my Grandads to my dad . My mother ( lower case ) sold it when Dad was in Viet Nam and he turned up MIA/POW for $50 at a Pawn shop . He escaped to Cambodia a year and a half later , was obviously captured and mom gave up hope sometime during that period and sold his guns to pay bills . And was screwing some other guy by then too .
He wasn't very happy with her when he came back to Travis Air Base , needless to say the mairrage did not last long after that .

Anyway , I don't know much compaired to some, allot compaired to others . Just been
around them allot is all and I read allot about them since my youth .
I wish I did have that little squirrel rifle still , but I sold it for a Marlin lever action when I was a stupid kid that just had to have the Model 39A Golden 22LR . I wasn't patient enough for front stuffers back then anyway . I am now , and yes , I am kicking myself . I traded the Marlin for a Motorcyle ????? I still ride though , allot . What a full circle that is .

Thanks , Boken

I know the symptoms of your disease!! Grew up in a Detroit cop house and by the time I was 10 Pops and his partners were asking me about what I thought they should carry. Didn't think about it 'til I was older then I questioned why cops would ask a child for life and death advice (now I realize just how under trained most of our police depts. are). First G&A subscription when I was 9 first shot at maybe 6. When most of my buddies were collecting porno I was reading and shooting everything I could (OK maybe a LITTLE porn now and then). The only problem with being the gun nut of the fam is that when they have a question that I can't answer they make it seem like "what the Hell". I keep threatening to start sending them bills.

Ha ha ha , now we have two comedians , you and I , whatch out !!!
Don't get me started on Cops man , I have seen some dandies let me tell ya . And some are my firends ! But then again everyone is under-trained till their trained , right ? The problem really stems from stupidity really , some people are just stupid . Put those two things together and you have a scarey person with a gun !!!! Just remember, cops only ask questions when its within thier best interest , not yours , that is thier job . They don't care if the info comes from a 9 year old as long as they prosper from the advice . Its the nature of the beast man . It does make you scratch your head a little though huh ??? Glad I am not the only obbsessed gunner around here now . Good to know .

Boken , sorry to hyjack your threade a little here godogz

How about the $20 you paid + shipping + whatever you had to pay the smith to fix it + $50? Fair deal?

If so send me a PM. If not send me a PM and let me know what kind of price you'd like for it.

Mowrey Gun Works in Indiana?

I read that Mowrey from Olney Texas is now Mowrey Gun Works in Indiana. I have a 1776 Bicentennial 50 cal from my father marked 28 of 100 but don't know much about it.
