| pyrodex to 777 what to change?
i have decided to change from pyrodex powder to 777 powder, i now use 80 grains of pyrodex. if i use 80 grains of 777 how will my bullet impact change?, i don't want to use too many shots as powder and bullets are getting higher all the time. i now have my optima shooting dead on at 100 yds with pyrodex, i checked with hodgen and they reccomend dropping the charge down to 65 with 777 to make bullet impact the same. i would like to know from ya'll that have made the switch to 777 and how ya'll did, it seems 65 is a little light and besides my measure only goes in 10 grain increasements so i could drop to 70 if thats true. thanks for any help.

Triple 7 produces about 15% higher pressures for the same weight/volume. A true 15% reduction from your 80 gr load would be 68grs. I think 70grs well be just right, should have minimal change on POI. What rifle are you shooting? I have shot T7 in my .50 TC Hawken. 70 & 75 gr loads feel like 90 grs of goex. I just picked up some Pyrodex RS to tryout in my new to me Mowrey .54

i have a cva optima and i'm shooting a 295 grain powerbelt hollow point. i was shooting rs but it was a little dirty and harder to clean than my friends rifle, he is useing 777 and just cleans with plain hot water. also he had the crud ring with 2-50 grain pellets but when he went to 80 grains of powder he don't get the crud ring. thats what i'm hopeing cause the only downside of 777 from what i've heard is the ring.

I shoot 85 grn. Pyrodex RS out of my .54 with superb results. I dropped down to 70 with 777 and did fine as well. I went back to the Pyrodex because I have so much of it and am happy shooting it.
