A clip is what a Garand uses, or in the case of stripper clips, what you use to load the magazines with...A magazine is the spring loaded self contained bullet container that is either built into the gun, or being detachable and changeable, becomes part of the gun in order for it to function. Magazines can be straight, curved or Tubular or Drums...

right, clips are simply cartridge holders used to load magazines - usually built in mags like an SKS or Garand. They are typically just simple strips of metal.

would it be legal for me to do this(i have to put it in steps, i typed it in sentence form and it didn't make sense):

1)give a friend who is of age money to buy a gun(hear me out, i know this sounds illegal)
2)he buys a gun and keeps it at his house, treats it as his own, and i only take it while supervised(so technically it's a supervised loan)
3)when i am old enough to legally own it he gives it to me

look up "strawman purchases". i personally dont object to what you want to do, but it most likely would be considered illegal by the ATF.

i enjoy reading magazines!

READ CAREFULLY !!!

Actually , you can have your friend buy the gun in his name, and he keeps the gun at his home ,in his possession...Legally, it is his gun. So as long as he doesn't screw you in the deal this will be legal. You can accompany him and shoot the gun, He cannot "Loan You" the gun,he must retain possesion until you are of age. Then, he can sell you the gun for 10 dollars (Alaska Rules) and it becomes your gun to own.
If you give him the money, less 10 dollars to purchase, then he has legal ownership claim and right of ownership, until you pay the balance when you become of age.
Again ,He LEGALLY owns the gun, NOT YOU.
It is a matter of trust....
THIS IS THE ONLY LEGAL WAY Neither of you can be charged with a STRAW purchase and meet Alaska Law requirements in a property exchange.

Best thing to do here cubbieman, since this is something that could lead to jail time and financial loss if you're "in the wrong" by law, is to ask a competant lawyer. That way, if the BATFE comes a'knockin' regarding this, then you call said lawyer and he or she will already have looked into it and be ready to defend you.

that's what i thought, even if i did get ripped off(which i wouldn't) it would be worth the $$ to have an extra gun to shoot at the range since he takes me with him almost every time he goes, and i really wouldn't go much without him if it was in my name at my house anyways

just_a_car-i'll probably do that, the lawyer thing assuming i can find one to do it without spending much money

Quote excerpt..."if it was in my name at my house anyways"....

Then you would be violating the Law, by being in possession of a Handgun
( Alaska laws states"Concealable Weapon") By being Underage...
Again...HE MUST KEEP THE WEAPON IN HIS POSSESSION Or CONTROL UNTIL YOU COME OF AGE and HE CAN LEGALLY SELL YOU THE GUN ! NO OTHER WAY !!! Its Not worth the risk if this person is not a parent or guardian.

He can take you shooting and let you use the gun at the range, but he has to keep the weapon when finished...PERIOD !!!

he's more like a brother than a friend, he's close enough that i would almost buy him a gun and just have him let me shoot it. and I trust him as much as I trust my parents for something like this. his wife and my mom are also very close friends so I'll take my odds. if i liked guns you can get at 18(are AK-47s and the like in that or do you have to be 21 for "assault weapons"), i'd say sure, but by the time i'm 21 my parents will probably move back to their house in IL and I'll stay here(no point in wasting time there when i can have more job opportunities and guns and less taxes here) and he's got a steady job here so he's gonna be here for a long time. It also may matter that i'm not giving it to some 21 yr old i just met, he's 26, and settled down with a wife and kid and i've known him for almost 3 yrs(not as long as it could be, but enough to trust him with a few hundred bucks)
