Yeah I am too I picked up a cheap 8x32 NCStar last year for $100 and just had it laying around waiting to put it on a gun, the leupold on my dad's .243 finally lost zero after 20 years and i had that with me for spotting and looking so we tossed it on and it worked fine just after about 20 power it was hard to find the eye relief. Anyway I wanted a nice hunting scope on it and I figured 9 power should work for paper punching if Not i'll pick up another one to switch off with for when all seasons are over.

Do you want to become a Good shooter or do you just want to play?

Basic fundamentals for becoming a good shooter will not change from one shooter to another.

Know the Trajectory of the projectile that you are using. the Projectile will never ever raise higher than the plane of the barrel but will cross the line of sight TWICE. You need to know the intersect points of this. For instance a M1a .308 is at 50 meters and at 300 meters, so you can sight the firearm in at 50 yards (within 6 inches at the muzzle) and have it sighted for 300 meters as well.

1. Good position is a whole helluva lot of score, you must NEVER use your muscles for a position but rather you skeleton (bone support) instead. Muscles will tire quickly and then spasism. Off hand is with your shoulders line up to the target. feet shoulder width apart and your face should be planted in the same place on the stock as it is for every other position, no variance. Your bones should be supporting you and the weapon and all the muscles in your body should be relaxed and not taught. If any muscles start to spasism n you, then you have a BAD position. Build a good position and with the support arm you should be holding the firearm at its' balance point and then have the elbow tucked into your side with your back locked.

2. Natural Point of Aim. I have watched so many people get this wrong, they will take their ready time and build a position and get a NPOA and then move around. WTF? I would walk up to the firing line, plant my feet in some good turf, line up my shoulders and then close my eyes. With eyes closed I would place weapon to my shoulder and draw it down and with a twist towards the target locking my back. Once I felt my weapon was on the target, with my eyes still closed I would wiggle the weapon left to right and up and down and let it fall back to place NATURALLY. Then I would open my eyes and see if I was on the target. If not I made minor adjustments to my feet, closed my eyes and started over, until when I opened my eyes I was on MY target. This prevented crossfires and made sure that after recoil your weapon would fall back onto the target and you didn't waste time searching for it.

3. never fire more than one shot per breath and never hold the breath for more than 10 seconds.

4. Make sure front sight ALWAYS stays in CRISP FOCUS and let the Target be blurrie.

5. Make sure the front Sight post is from 12 to 6 and not canted.

6. Use just th forward part of your finger and slowly pull straight back and when the weapon fires, keep the trigger all of the way back until you are certain he projectile went thru paper, then release.

7. Never eat a hearty meal prior to shooting, you may find getting into position is harder and the pulse is faster.

8. Sight picture, sight alignment, breathing, position, trigger control are all very very important if you want to be able hit the target more than once.

Once you have learned the basics, you will find that the Off Hand position is going to be your BEST position and the prone will be your worst. if you haven't learned this, then keep studying until you have.

Good Luck and have fun

Happiness is a tight one.........
