Target Shooting

I finally wanna get more into target shooting I got tired of just doing hunting and not being able to shoot my guns year around. Main question is I can shoot off hand and such at wild game. What are all the techniques for actual paper punching with a rest and such? breathing/heart rate so on so forth what are things that I'll need to research/learn?

It's not all that difficult, I began hunting at seven years of age [1948] and did not really get into target shooting until 2005. Oh sure I shot at tin cans, stumps, and various other informal targets through the years but didn't shoot paper until 2005. Try it you'll like it!

Yeah I always go out and fart around shooting at random objects, just this year when I spent an hr sighting in the .243 for deer hunting I had a blast thats why I'm picking up a 17hmr lil bit cheaper to shoot and can be used on small game. Later on I plan on getting a .308 for hunting/target shooting.

target shooting is all i do.
you will find that the sky is the limit for extras
i tried a few different rests and wish i would have just bought a damn nice one in the 1st place instead of 2 crappy ones and 1 ok one.
i got a spotting scope.
and spent a lot of money trying out .22 ammo.
i have 3 rifles that i really consider target.
my cz 452
savage 10-fp .308
ruger 10-22 shilen bbl.
i need to replace my bags with some nice leather ones soon.

you should try one of the BLACK DEATH TARGETS
as you can see i just barely aced this one

you can find one to print out on my blog.

those bench rests seem like a lot of money for a "gun holder" but you wont be sorry!

you are going to learn how to read the wind.
it's hard trust me!

can you tell I LOVE THIS HOBBY?

now i want a 36x fixed scope!

Thanks for the replies guys and especially to Billy. I've always enjoyed plinking over actual hunting for some reason but paper just doesn't taste all that good lol. What are the brand names on your rests that u've tried? I was thinking of getting a BTVS for target shooting but is the cz452 actually better? Also thanks for the targets I'll definately print some off where do I find your blog?

You have some beautiful rifles there Billy. Not to mention the target that proves you know how to use them. Have fun.

Yeah thats what I've been doing, ever since my ruger 10/22 started shooting high/low all the time. Figured out what the deal was when i looked at a trajectory chart compared to a 17hmr and hm2 on this site realized that It'd be great for target shooting and the occasional rabbit or squirrel when I get hungry and not a bad price on shells.

That looks like fun, you're a target shooter do u have any match barrels or have u ever done an actual "break in" I've been reading all over that most barrels don't need an actual break in and any that do usually get lead lapped and then a mixture of alcohol/moly before getting its first shot thru the barrel.
