Scopes on pistols?

There's tons of optics out there for pistols. What do you guys think of their practicality? Obviously they're only good for hunting and marksmanship, not tactical stuff.

I've considered making a quickly removable mount for my Steyr that saddles over the slide in the front and attaches to the accessory rail.

Talking I can laugh too

I'm just pathetic with the reason at times.

Here's my concept for the Steyr, quickly removable after use on the range.

Thumbs up

I like the scopes on my Contender barrels (10" .22LR and 14" Bull .223), and have shot a Browning Buckmark like mine but fitted with a red dot - very nice! But for a "working gun", give me some good simple iron sights.

I might hang a 4x Leupold on a contender, assuming I ever really felt like getting a Contender, but ti's pretty far down the list. Otherwise, blah on pistol scopes! Perfume for pigs!

Cool

Have scopes for all my Contender barrels except the .410.
.223 gets T/C 3-9x
.17 HMR gets T/C 2-7x
.22LR match gets 4x Leupold
I only use these pistols for hunting.

Scopes in general are a pain as one needs special holsters, etc. I have a lot of other pistols, but so far they're all iron sighted.

I've noticed as I get older (55) a real degradation in my ability to have depth of field over iron sights. I may mount a red dot or something over my S&W Model 41 bullseye pistol someday.

I might consider a tactical light on the accesory rail. If properly alligned, it would be a superb quick reference in a dark house. It blinds the target, confirms identification for the shooter, and putting the middle of the beam on their torso will insure solid chest shots in a hectic situation.
