...that can handle the kick on my AK without a problem. I'm magnifying a basic red dot sight hopefully by 3-4x or so. Should I mount the magnifier on top of the grip and the sight on top of the dust cover or the other way around?

I don't have any firsthand knowledge or experience with them but I've heard the Mako ones are pretty good and still won't break the bank. One of my buddies has one mounted to the rear of an Aimpoint CompM3 on his AR-15. He does not have a flip to side mount on the Magnifier but they do make that style mount for the Makos. If I talk to him soon I'll ask him if he likes his. I've never heard him complain about it and I probably would have by now..haha

Just remember going cheap is not always the best way. Look at some of the threads around the Mosin Nagant forum about the pin on muzzle brakes. All the advertisements say they are great and more than a few have come off.
