Weaver has a pretty good reputation. Own their Grand and Super Slams and a 40/44. Wouldn't hesitate buying another of any of them. You seldom read anything negative about their Classic K, V, or T series scopes.
Not that long ago, Weaver added the Kaspa Series and Buck Commander scopes. The Kaspa are made in China and I think, like the 40/44s, the Buck Commanders are made in Philippines, but not sure about this. From what I gather, monitoring optics sections in various gun forum web sites, they are decent scopes, but certainly not in the same class as the Grand and Super Slams.
Have a few of the BSA Majestic DX Hunter scopes that are 6-24x44 SF. Bought my first one shortly after it was introduced early 2011. Decent glass in them and the adjustments work OK. Have them on mid recoil rifles like your 308 that I regularly shoot paper with at range. Check Graf and Sons to see if they still have it onsale for $90....paid around $140 for mine.
