| HELP !!! What Scope to buy ? I recently bought a new deer hunting rifle, which is a Ruger Hawkeye boltaction in 308 caliber. I need to buy a scope for it. After searching I think I'm interested in....... #1 a Burris 3X9 40mm #2 Nikon 3X9 40mm #3 Leopold 3X9 40mm In So.Ark. where I live 3x9's were the norm, yet now I'm hearing buy... 4X12 50mm. I'm open to your suggestion's and $ 300.00 is the max I can spend. A lot of you members live in states with more big game to hunt than we have here which are Deer and Hogs. Thanks for your Help...A.H |

| Nice Rifle, how does it shoot? Which did you get the wood or the synthetic? I prefer wood and blue steel, but that is just my preference. How about a Picture. As far as the scopes go you have list three decent manufacturers but again I prefer the Leopold, I have always found them to be nice solid scopes. Here is one that I am looking at for my Ruger. | Thanks guys for the imput. I bought the matte Blk/syn. I can't shoot it until I put a sight on it. I don't have a camara to post pictures, I'll see if my son's cell phone will do it or i mean I'll ask him to do it. Troylaplante those scopes look expensive and are they for military rifles ? Despoiler the one you posted is definitly in my price range ! |

| You dont need a parilax adjustment below 10 power and 3+9 should cover all hunting ranges. samuel. |

| Thanks billy but no thanks lol I need to get one with matte finish and one I know will last a while... I've got Tasco world class'es on my marlin 375 and remington 06 and they've been good ones except I have to zero them every year which is o.k but I shoot a lot of ammo in both of them getting them zeroed and I use blue loctite so there not loose. This New rifle deserves the best scope I can get for 300 dollars or less and thats the reason I put up a thread...A.H |

| Remember A.H at our age the advantage of a 50mm objective lens is greater light gathering equaling a brighter sight picture. Anything to balance out aging eyes LMAO

| as much as i love big scopes, for deer hunting a 40mm objective in a quality scope will easily allow you to shoot under legal shooting hours anywhere in this country. 3-9 or 4-12 is a personal preference. i have only ever shot 1 deer with a scope cranked up past 6X so i dont see the higher power as overly critical. with your $300 budjet, the leupold VX-2 3-9X 40mm scope would be my choice. |

| leftyo thanks ! The Tasco 3x9's I own stay on 4 power because your right I never needed to crank them up either. I did find atleast on the Tasco's when sighting both of them in, if you cranked up the power it changed the point of impact of the bullet. So I normaly used 3 to 4 power on them. This new rifle needs a better scope than what I've got on my other 2 rifles so I'll go look at the VX-2 Thanks Mike Ezearln you ole gizzer LOL I ain't that blind yet !!! I got 20/20 with both eyes open BUT we want talk about when one or the other is closed. LMAO...A.H |

| Well I just trying to help out A.H. seems these days I can find the dang sights but I needs my glasses to read the directions on a recipe page, depressing to think that just a few years ago I could shoot the wings off a fly at 20 yards now I have to put my glasses on to verify if it is a fly before I shoot dang it anyhows! LOL

| for the price you set i think the burris has the best glass, leupold is by far the best for the money but to capitalize that you need to go with vx III the lower cost units really compramize on glass quality (imo) and that takes you to $360 |

| Well folks I just ordered a Burris 3x9 40mm matte scope from the above web site the scope had a special with it, it comes with a pr of binoculars or a GPS gizzmo. I hope a lot of yall will check out this site the prices are LOWer than WalMart. Matter of fact another lesser model than the one I bought is 219 dollars at WalMart and the one I bought at SWFA with the binoculars cost 198 dollars...there would of been sales tax if I had bought at WalMart. No tax from the outfit I bought it from and it was in stock and they said I would recieve Thursday UPS. I also ordered butler Creek lens caps which were 15 dollars. The Burris is warrented forever and a #1 seller The model # for the one I bought is 200162bin the bin is the free binocular pkg. The binoculars are warrented for 1 year. PLEASE CHECK OUT THIS SITE...Thank you...A.H |
