| Senior Member ![]() | Simmons 3-9x40 info needed Dear Members of Gun and Game I'm in need of a scope for my new Marlin 22mag. Bolt Action rifle. I found in Cabela's last Minute Holiday catalog a Simmons 8 Point 3 - 9 X 40 scope thats says it's a cabelas special buy price for $ 49.99. Is there anyone familar with this brand and the quality. This scope appears ideal for what I'm going to put it on and the price is really all I want to pay and yes I know it's a cheap scope. The 2 old Tasco world class scopes on 2 of my rifles are cheap scopes and have endured the test of time LOL. So Please what's your thoughts about Simmons. Thank you...A.H |

| Senior Member | Simmons 8 point has been around for quite a while and are very decent scopes for the money and simmons stands behind their products really well, sold a million of em when i worked in the gun shop i use to work in, not very many returned that had a problem if so simmons was quick to take care of it and send it back in a reasonable time ![]()

| Senior Member | I've had some really great Simmons scopes. You're getting a heck of a deal since I paid over $100 for mine. If I remember right, they have a lifetime guarantee. I have a 4x on my 10-22 and love it. Very clear and good eye relief.

| Senior Member | Since it's only a .22 mag, I would think the world is your oyster as far as scopes, A.H. Don't need to worry about recoil effecting the scope too much. I've also had some good Tasco's and other cheapos that have worked just fine. I was just looking through my parts shelf and found one of my Simmons, it's a 4x, 32mm obj. and it's built specifically for .22 mag. It says "Designed and Engineered in the U.S.A., and then in small print, "Manufactured in China". LOL. Looking through it, it has about 3"-3 1/2" of eye relief and good clarity. Quote:
Lefty, what were the failures in the simmons scopes that you had?

| Senior Member | broken reticles, on 22lr's too boot. im not hard on my equipment either, i take very good care of my stuff. i guess you could really make it 4 bad simmons if oyu count my 2X pistol scope that doesnt magnify. if you happen to get a good simmons, you've got an okay scope, but the odds of getting bad ones are higher than other manufacturers. buying a simmons is kinda like gambling. because of the poor quality ive quit wasting my money on them. too bad to, because i did like the optics on the 6.5-20x 44mag , of course it didnt last 300rnds on a 10/22. JUNK! |

| Moderator ![]() | I have several Simmons scopes, and never have they failed. They aren't great but they aren't junk so far either. You get what you pay for. My Marlin .22Magnum and .17HMR rifles wear Bushnells - only due to my getting a good deal and their being AO scopes, which I wanted. My most powerful scope is the 4-14X44 AO 'ATV' scope by Simmons - works very well for my larger rifles. Got it essentially free when it came on a Ruger M77 in .22-250. I sold the rifle but kept the scope! For my regular .22LR rifles, I like the lighter 3-9X32 Simmons scopes.
