Clear Flip Open Scope Lense Covers?

Hello,

At the gunstore I bought a couple flip open lens covers for my .22's 'scope.

All they hand in the size I needed were ones with clear lenses.

Ok, I went ahead and got them. I figure that I can flip them open if I need more clarity or if they get dirty with snow or dirt.

I don't understand, though, if they were made to flip open, why do they even make clear ones?

I was very close to just coloring mine in with a black permanent marker, but decided against it.

What's the point of clear flip-up 'scope covers? I don't get it.

Thanks,

Josh <><

They provide a quick shot I guess. A marketing gimmick that didn't really catch on. They are not as water tight as the solid black flip open scope covers. I don't like them.

I've got many of the solid flip up on my scopes and they last forever. Once in awhile the little red flip up lever on the 'Butler Creek' wears out but I just trim it off with a razor and it takes an extra second to open them but they still protect the lens very well.

Killer,

Thanks. I wondered about that.

I suppose I'll live with these things until I can find some solids which fit.
