Leapers optics

I was looking at the Leapers company, I was wondering if the company is any good? dependable? worth investing in?

The vitals

The scope: (accushot) 4-16x56mm
The Gun: Savage hunter series 111F 30-06
synthetic stock
long action, free floating barrel
Hunting: deer, coyote.

I would like to spend $175 or less. I like to have a little more power due to the reason of shooting distance of 200+ yrds
thanks for your time.

I recently bought the SCP-432AOMDL2 4X32 scope. Have yet to mount it but it appears to be well made. Its from the 5th Generation Bug Buster series. Also part of the TS (True Strength platform of scopes...

Yes there will be those that say they're junk. All a matter of ones own opinion. I also believe that since they first came into the market, they've greatly improved both quality and durability. We shall see. If I find it junk, once I get to use it, I'll gladly admit to it. But seeing as how it only cost me 54.99, I'm not expecting all that much. But I've been told they work just fine. If it can hold up to a .416 Rigby, as the Leapers website states, it will hold up to a smaller caliber.

I would also say it is just as good as any of the Bushnells scopes or any other brand within or up to the $100.00 or so price range.

i got this one at a gun show about 3 weeks ago. 3-9X40 Full Size Rubber Armored Mil-Dot Illuminated SCP-394FDRL3-A. From what ive read and looked at online, it seems that they are mainly made for .22's or airguns, but supposedly they state on their website that they will hold a zero on a bigger rifle. im not really sure. i was actually going to put it on my .308 untill i read everything about them, then i decided to put it on my .22 mag instead. ive got it mounted, but i havent sighted it in yet. tomorrow ill try to go sight it in and test it out a little bit and see how it performs. hopefully it will perform as well as it looks.

yes, Leapers are junque.

This Weaver is not junque:

63176 - 6x38mm K-6 Classic Riflescope, Dual-X Reticle, 1/4 MOA, Matte Black, Warranty - Manufactured by: Weaver

This Bushnell looks real good:

25589 - 6-18x50mm Banner Riflescope, 1/4 MOA, Multi-X Reticle, Adjustable Objective, Black Matte, Warranty - Manufactured by: Bushnell

I think even Simmons and Tasco are better than Leapers.

Yea, that Bushnell looks good at that price. 18x ought to get you out to 400 yds OK.

From what I can tell, the Leapers 5th Generation True Strength series is not made any different then a Bushnell at/in similar price range. Same quality. Only reason a Bushnell might be higher priced is it is considered a brand name. Not a high end brand name, but a brand name none the less. But in having both, looking at both, same quality. Both brands are or have multi-coated optics, are waterproof, shockproof and either nitrogen purged or filled for fog proof/prevention.

I've seen the reticle shoot loose in more Bushnells than Leapers. I had a Leapers 1st gen. 6x32 on my SKS that was one of the best scopes I've used as far as staying zeroed and the settings being repeatable. The only probs. I had were the o-ring pushed out around the objective eyepiece after about three years (caused no problems tho), and it would flare badly in bright sunlight, like most cheap scopes do. On the other hand, my sons Bushnell Banner 3x9 broke the reticle within the first box of ammo. This is typical of the cheaper Bushnells that I've seen.

Well it was going to go on an SKS, just to see how the receiver cover scope mount would work, before I put a more expensive one on it. I've decided to keep the SKS as it is and just use the irons sights for now.

Another part of that decision was made for me in that the BSA 4X32 scope that came with the Gamo Shadow Combo (with scope) pellet gun I got for my son is a piece of junk in that one shot would be dead on and the next 2 or 3 would be all over the place. So, I put the Leapers (one mentioned above) on it and the shots are far more consistent. I just did this today as a matter of fact and it got to be a little dark and I've yet to finish zeroing it in. It is a good scope, I'm sorry, but in my opinion it just is. I know there are those that feel different, but for $60 bucks, it's a great little scope and it works fine.

Evil, go ahead and put it on your 30-06. It will hold up and work fine. The guy I bought mine from, (I met him online via eBay, he's got an eBay store, lrarmsinc<->Little River Arms Inc.) and we've become friends and I've become a customer of his. I'd told him what I was originally planning on using it for, putting it on an SKS, and he told me it would work fine. That he's had one, the 6X32 model in the same 5th Generation True Strength series, on his 30-06 and it's worked great and held up fine. So go ahead, mount it on your 30-06 and put it to the test.

Not sure if or when I'll put a scope on the SKS. If and when I do though will be based more on a need (eye sight) then a want. When I finally get to shoot it and depending on how it shoots and how hard it is (eyes again) will determine whether or not I go to a scope. But I WILL again get another one of these and try it. I am not about to get a more expensive scope and have the SKS receiver cover mount thrash it all to hell. I'll see what it does to a cheaper priced, not cheaper made scope first..

And by all means, let me know how it works out on that 30-06... Make sure though to use some half way decent scope rings and don't over torque them, (I'm sure you knew that though).

GM, if you decide to go with an SKS receiver mount, hit me up and I can tell you how to make it just as solid as a side mount without losing the ability to remove the cover.
