Tasco 6-24x42M or 6-24x44DS

Any thoughts on which one would be better for target shooting and gophers (ground squirrels)? The gun will be a .22 LR with maximum distance of 100 yards or so.

The differences seem to be that the 42 has Mil Dot and 1/4 moa adjustment, while the 44 has a dot reticle and 1/8 moa adjustment. The 44 will cost me about 60% more. Anyone aware of any other differences between these two scopes - different coatings?

Personally,

I would go with the 6-24x42.
1) it has a mil dot, even though the max distance is only 100yards, if you wanted to shoot farther, or put it on another gun it would be useful!

2) its cheaper (price wise)

I'm not so sure that you will happy with your purchase, one way or the other. I've never seen a Tasco that could focus well at powers above 18X simply becuse the glass quality isn't there.

Anyone with personal experience with the 44DS? The Tasco website says it can focus and correct parallax down to 10 feet -- which seems amazingly short. I don't think the website is reliable as it also says the scope is 17 FEET long. Most sources on the internet say the AO goes down to 25 yards (including a 2004 and 2006 Tasco catalogue I found), with a few saying 25'. 25' would be ok, but not 25 yards. Our local store is sold out of them, so I can't get my hands on one to check it. I have checked the 42M at the store and it can focus quite close.

Thoughts about the Bushnell Banner 6-18x50 AO?

Looks like I can get it for about $140. Not so sure about the Mult-X reticle though, especially for target shooting?

Ron i have had a 6x24 tasco on a ruger 77v .243 for about 10 yrs. and i have shot many small varmits and other vermin from 50 to 400 yrds and i have no complaints, it has the adjustable objective and i have never had any trouble with focus of parallax when adjusting it for the proper yardage, mine has the duplex, but i have a 2.5x10 with the mil-dot and i wish the 6x24 did also. Good scopes for the price in my opinion.

I chickened out on the Tasco and went for the Bushnell Banner 6-18x50AO. It seems pretty good. Says it is made in Korea. I appreciate the help given here.

I've been looking for a non China 6X18X40 ,,but no they make them all like HUBBEL TELESCOPES and 50 MM obj. anyone know where I can find one with w 40 mm..Bushnell used to have one. I have a Tasco 6X24X42mm sitting next to me too much power... I put a muller APV 4.5 X 14X40 on to replace it, So now i have a almost NIB tasco left over--JMJ--

I bought the 6-24x 42, mil dot, and I'm pretty happy with it. I got it on sale at Midway for I think $79 on sale, last fall. I have it on my AR-10. The only drawback I have found with it is the apparent low tolerance eye relief. I haven't seen alot of drift with it yet, seems to stay "on" from one time to the next. It's not the best "light gatherer" in the scope world, but after all........it was $79 bucks. When I get rich and famous, I'll put on a Burris 3200 elite. lol

I've got that Bushnell Banner 6-18 x 50 on a Ruger MK77 Target, .223. It has been a great scope. Glad you went that way.
