| Registered User | Bushnell or Burris + mounting? I have been looking around for what scope I should get for my first hunting rifle (most likely either a Savage 110, or Ruger Hawkeye). For my price range ($100-$250) I have got the best reviews about Bushnell elite 3200, and Burris Fullfield. Also I'd like to know what people think I should do for mounting stuff. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

| Banned | I think the elite 3200 is a good price performance tradeoff point. Leupold Rifleman mounts are also a good value. And a good article on how to do it right. Epoxy Method of Scope Mounting Ron |

I would seriously look at Sightron SII 3-9 x 42, it is better than either of those two and you should be able to find it right around 200. These arent going to be available at this price much longer though, Sightron is pushing the new SII series called SII Big Sky and the same size scope is about 350. I truly believe you should think again about your scope choice. Save a little bit more dough and spend it on the scope. Its gonna be there a long time, you should at least find someone that has a better scope and spend some time shooting with it. I would not get a scope below Bushnell 4200, Burris signature select or Sightron SII. I wouldnt go much above them either. If you must go with one of those 2 scopes I would stick with the Bushnell. Dont buy the cheap scope mounts, get the good ones as mentioned by the other posters.

| Senior Member | Of the 2 scopes mentioned, I would go with the bushnell, I have one on my daughters rifle and it is just as clear and sharp as my nikon monarch. If the choice is between the bushnell and sightron SII, get the sightron or jump up to the bushnell 4200. As far as scope mounts, I prefer Burris signature rings. The inserts in these rings will virtually eliminate torque and keep you from bending the scope tube. |

They arent that well known but here is what I have said about them in another thread. http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/440868-post20.html Here is a thread on this forum about Sightron scopes http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/opt...on-scopes.html (Sightron scopes) Here is a link to a thread on optics talk about 3200 vs SII The Optics Talk Forums: sightron sll or 3200 Here is a review on Chuck Hawks on the SII Sightron SII scopes Here is a link to a review of several scope makers Scopes The only things negative I have heard about Sightrons is that they have changed their warranty to read that they will replace OR repair a returned scope at their discretion. They still have a lifetime warranty but they no longer just replace it with a new one. The other negative thing was that some people were having problems with one of the early runs on the SII Big Sky scopes, I cant remember which size but I think it was the 4-16 power one.
