Bushnell Banner or Mueller Sportdot ?

so im gonna order me a scope in the next day or two. so far its between the Bushnell Banner 6-24x40 mildot for $140 or the Mueller 4-16x50 sportdot for $210. if anyone has any experience with these scopes, let me know. Mainly the Mueller. I had a Bushnell Banner about 4 years ago, but ended up selling it with the gun it was on and I never really got to put it to the test since I only had the gun for about a month.

I have a Banner 6-24. It is a very solid scope as far as reliability goes, but I thought the optics were blurred above 20x.

I had it on a 22-250 with a custom target turret knob where I was constantly changing my elevation with every shot(prarie dogs, so that was alot of adjusting). It always returned to zero perfect.

The only thing I didnt care for was the glass would get blurry around the edges if you went over 20x, but keeping under that is was great. For the price of it it's not bad, but if it's blurry over 20x you could always just get the 6-18x.

I've personally have neither, but a friend of mine has a Mueller Eradicator on a 223. It is a fine scope, very repeatable, and clear to the edges on 25 power. I especially like the ultra-fine dot recticle, but would like them more if it had mil-dots. I think he paid $229 shipping included. Heck of a lot better than $750 for a Leupold.

The Mueller Sportdot seems to be a good scope for the cost...especially with the AO option.

Many people here love their Meuller's! I would like to check one out as well if I could find one locally.

I don't have either one, but do have a Busnell Banner 6-18x50AO. I find it to be very clear edge to edge, at both high and low magnifications. I've seen other scopes fuzz out at the edges at low magnifications. I adjust it quite a bit for different ammo and distances. It seems to hold zero and keep returning to where it was. My Banner is made in Korea, which I regard as second best to Japan. I wish it had target turrets. I'm not sure about mildots. I would like to try one for a while just to see if I like it or not.

On the Mueller they seem to have a strong following at the Rimfire Central forum, perhaps because some of the moderators there apparantly have had some input to the design. They are made in China, and the most popular model seems to be the APV which Mizzou Mule sells for $115 including a sunshade and shipping in the US. However, in the US I believe you can get the Banner 6-18 for the same price. It has more power, a bigger objective lens, and is made in Korea, not China. To me it is not an obvious choice over the Banner. I also see quite a few posts about issues with the Eradicator model of the Mueller, but less on the APV. You also have to watch the reticle on the Muellers, as a good number of them are illuminated. Seems to be just another thing that could go wrong.

Hope that helps some,

Ron
