I just happened to be checking out the post in regards to how to pronounce Leupold and Bisley, to see what the consensus was. So I then just decided to go to Leupold and see if maybe they had anything on it since it's always been a topic for as long as I can remember. In doing this, I ran across this and thought I'd better share it with my fellow G&G members.
Could a moderator maybe sticky it to the top of the optic forum? Also, spread it around/share it with other forums or people you know or be a member of... They (Leupold) also provide an identifying marks section...
Thanks, but I guess it's been out for a while. First I saw or heard of it though. And if you ask me, if it's been around, not many knew of it because had they, when the thread/post for the Leupold Riflemen scope was posted, some 1 would have said something, you'd think. lol

Thanks Guys, for sharing the info on this forum. We in South Africa need info like this. You see, Leupold is quite well represented here, but in the last year or two we have picked up (mainly) focus problems on some Leupolds. Now, after having read the warning on their website, We can inform our users accordingly and sort out the good from the bad and ugly.
God I would be so pissed if I bought one of those to find out those commies made it. Damn chinese i despise them, who would ever thought they would own most of our national debt? I wonder what happens when we r over due our payments? Are they gonna call a collection agency? Start stocking up on ammo.........

In America, we have some stadards for products, unlike other countries. The stuff the Chinese are sending to other countries sometimes is broken before it gets out of the packaging. It's that bad. We're lucky(unlucky) to be getting the "good" stuff.
after dealing with fta boxs for years and havin to figure out of you got the real one or a copy it is kinda humorus that the company would pop up and say ok if you want to know if it's fake or not just look for these marking!! now you will never know if it's fake or not because them copy cat guys are now gonna be makin them look even closer to the originals now that they know what marks to look for . this is just my thoughts but to me there is a copy of everything out there. look at the yamaha rhino's there is about 4 diferent copies out there and the copies are so good that all the parts are inerchangeable with the real rhino. we live in a buyer be ware world so just buy from a good dealer and leave the internet guys alone unless you know it's a reputable company. if it sounds to good to be true it probably is a fake or not true.
yes there are imatations bein made but after doin some searching i've found its leopold who's the culprit. the china scopes are the 100% made scopes . leo' buys the lens and inserts them in thier tubes.no wonder these imatations are so close to the "real thing".....leopold prolly let'em have the designs to be able to produce the lens like they wanted. so who's guilty of what?

Considering that the Chinese have been copying Western products since long before the Communists won the civil war and ran the Nationalists out and the West seems unable to stop them, the only solution is to just nuke the whole damned country (j/k). I was told by officers I sailed with that if I ever made it to Singapore or Shanghai, I should invest in a complete set of H.O. 214 and H.O. 229, the navigating tables used by navigators to convert star and sun sights to lines of position on the charts. I could get the tables there for about a quarter of what it would cost to buy them from the US Government Printing Office.
The only realistic solution I can think of would be to confiscate the counterfeit goods, dump them at sea in water too deep for them to be recovered and tell the insurance companies to deny any claims. Enough of that and they might get the message. It also would not hurt if Americans refused to "buy Chinese." That eventually worked against the Japanese fishermen who used nets that killed dolphins for tuna-fishing, but it took 15 years for the Japs to get the message and change their fish nets.
