A lot of info in the article. Just remember that it is 5 years (according to the dates on the first page) old and things have changed a bit. Very usefull for a guide but always check things out for yourself.

(For a good CHEAP rifle scope), check out the Center point line such as the 4x16x40. It had been getting some really good reviews. You can buy this scope at your local wal-mart for around 70 bucks. It is a chinese made scope but it has really clear glass and if you read reviews from rimfire central this scope seems to really be holding up well even on higher powered rifles.

Yep, very good and informative and helpful website.

But I could have sworn I've seen this posted here before?

If it was, nothing wrong with seeing it or being reminded of the info or that the info is out there again...

FWIW, I now know it was posted previously. Went to bookmark it only to find it's already bookmarked. lol

That pretty much limits you to a Nightforce as they are the only scope that I know of that is being manufactured in America. They're not cheap either. Almost twice as much as the high end Leupolds.

I have 9 rifles with scopes 8 of those are wearing leupolds, including my RWS pellet rifle. In my opinion they may be a little spendy but not not having to worry when I sqeeeeeeze the trigger is worth the extra few $$$$.

Leupold, Redfield (now owned by Leupold), Burris, and Pentax (made by Burris) are made in the USA. Burris doesn't make all of it's products (spotting scopes for one) here, but their rifle scopes are domestic. At least they're assembled here. I think almost every quality maker uses Japanese lenses except for the really expensive European brands. The Weaver brand is back, but they're made by ATK (a decent quality maker) in the Philippines. Not sure if ATK owns the trademark or is a jobber.

I noticed that nobody made mention of NcStar scopes.I,like a few others here on G&G, don't exactly have money falling out of my butt,so I buy what I can afford.

I currently have 3 NcStar ,2 Bushnells, and 2 Simmons. The one POS that I should have never bought was a Barska.I wouldn't advise any one to get one of those.

The NcStar scopes have been great,as well as the Bushnells. They are mounted on all my .30 cal guns and one on my 8mm.

I read a review Cabela's low end scopes ( 3X9 40mm) are great scopes for the money.
I'll buy one next fall and put on a 22 mag and do a range report...A.H

Jason, what problem did you have with the Barska. I got one of their varmint scopes for my birthday a few months ago (had never heard of 'em). So far it has been incredible. The image is crisp to the edges, it holds zero, it is sturdy and easy to use, and it works great even at night. the only problems I have with it are the reticle (a simple thin cross that disappears in tall grass) and the fact that the rifle's hammer is so close to the sight bell that it scrapes the paint.

Pro,
I bought a couple Swift rimfire scopes several years ago and was suprised how clear they were then. This was about when the then new VX-3 came out for a date reference. Great little scopes.
Con,
I recently bought a BSA scope from Midway at half price they said. Yesterday I got the Graf & Son catalog and it was their everyday price. Mr. Potterfield can KMA! No more money for them. The only bright side is that I like the scope so far.
