I'm looking to add a flashlight to my P99 and my AR. I am looking for a good light that isn't too expensive, no more than $100 for each light. For my P99 I am looking at a streamlight tlr1 which is barely over my limit, but it seems to be a good one. I have't seen any I like that I can afford for my AR, but have been looking at the Surefire lights. Any opinions for good mountable lights for not too much cash?
Your best bet for your AR for a reasonable price is to pick up a used Surefire G2L or if you can get a good price, the G2X. Mount options are the VTAC offset mount or the GearSector offset mount. Just Google those and you'll have good options.
You could also buy an Insight M3 or M3X and buy the separate long gun pressure switch
Another option to look into would be a Surefire flashlight with a tail switch set up to operate with your thumb. I know several guys who run this setup with great results. I actually have my AK set up this way with a Surefire G2X Pro.
Darkfront offered you good advice about looking into used lights. They are practically indestructible and many service members are selling them when they return home.
As for the TLR-1, I have one on my Glock and highly recommend it. They are nice and bright and pretty affordable. The only thing better that I have seen is the Surefire X300 which has a grip switch, but they are pretty pricey.

Only thing about spending a little money on a weapon mounted light is Streamlight has lifetime guarantees. They also have added C4 lights. My work sells them and I get to play with them a lot. They have strobe options too, but that's more for law enforcement.

ok guys enlighten me (pun intended)....why would i want to put a target on my weapon for the bad guy to aim at???
Sometimes the light can mess them up visually as well...getting hit with a strobing light that's bright as the sun can throw off a would be attacker when their eyes are adjusted to the dark, keep in mind that it can brighten your eyes as well so the laser pointer can help there while you drop them
I prefer not to have a light on my personal weapons. You may hear a bump in the night go to look with your flash light but you will have to point your weapon to use the light. More times than not you will not want to point your weapon at what you are looking at. What if it was your best friend comming over because his wife kicked him for being drunk again, do you really want to point your loaded gun at him?? I prefer to keep them close togeather but not attached. Now if you are talking about a weapon for working (ie Military, LE ect) Surefire 6P original is about $60 and mine has been through more abuse than a flash light should and I still win the who has the brightest light game. LOL
What I say is my is only my PERSONAL opinion
