Some words about wood grips.

Hi All!

I deleted my last post for the reasons Oxford mentioned.

Okay, then I want to ask you about Grips making. I'm working on CZ 82/83 Grips. I've heard that there are little differences between these guns. What are they?

I've got a set of CZ-82 original plastic grips to use as a template but I want them to fit to CZ 83 too.

Thanks for you help.
Dennis

Oxford. Thanks. Really.

Thumbs up

MarschalGrips...we welcome new members who are interested in discussing all sorts of guns, and gun related topics, including grips.

However, it would be prudent to make several posts before marketing a product on G&G if you're offering them for sale here.

We usually quickly delete posts as spam which are strictly promotions to sell products, regardless of the products.

Now...if you're interested in discussing how these grips were made, type of material, tools needed to make them, etc, I would be interested in that type of information. There are other grip makers on G&G who may be interested in sharing some construction information with you.

MarschalGrips...you're off and flying now in the right direction. Thanks! Toolman is another grip maker on G&G you might want to contact VIA P.M. I don't know exactly which grips he makes...but you two should have something in common to discuss.

As for me, I would say from your AVATAR your grips are very well done, indeed. I don't have the particular gun you mentioned, but do have a Ruger .357 Mag Security Six SS that has Pachameyer grips on it that I really do like. However, my grips are of a rubber type material which fit the grip of my hand very well.

No doubt, the wood in your grips are of a very hard closed pored wood, possibly out of a piece of burl. I am a woodworker of sorts and appreciate all types of fine woodworking, as well as home constrution details, too. Fact is, I'm completing a table now in my woodworking shop which incorporates French Provential styled legs to rails and a top which I've given a routed edge to match my daughter's existing furniture. Today I plan to use Minwax stain to begin the final finishing process.

Hope you keep posting about your gun interests.

Thanks for helping,
PM sent to Toolman. Hope he could help me.

Working with real wood is fantastic. Personally I don't like laminates or wallboards and other wood substitutes.
I like hand finishing! Using oils and other varnishes but my favorite is Shel-lac. The result is beautiful especially on bended surfaces. Sometimes I'm unable to make a real-like photo of my works.

Have a nice day, and be careful with those sharp tools!

Hey Dennis, Welcome to G&G!
For some reason, I haven't received your PM.
I'm sorry I can't help you with the CZ-82\83 issue as i don't have either one and they are just now starting to show up over here on the surplus market. FWIW, I may be buying a CZ-83 pretty soon and will be happy to send you a tracing of the grips and frame section if I get it.
From your avatar, it looks like you do nice work.
My camera is really insufficient unless conditions are just right, so I don't post many pics but here is a link to a set of Walther PPK grips that are still under construction for another G&G member. The wood is Honduras Rosewood and the backstrap (unseen) is Gaboon Ebony. When finished they will have initials inlayed into the backstrap using synthetic Mother Of Pearl.
Again, welcome aboard,
Tim

Tim, Thanks for the warm welcome.

Is Walther PPK the same as Roehm RG100? I have 3D models of RG100/800 grips.

Here is a picture of that gun and grips.

Dennis.

Oxford. Thanks. Really.
I wonder if anyone here might be willing to pull theirs off and trace them for you, scan, and email?

I'd be glad to but I don't own one.
