wanted info on rem.721-722 front sights

I would like to know why on the 721's and 722's the front sight ramp comes soldered on and still has a screw through the top of the sight and when the sight is taken off(for what ever reason) there's 2 little posts like protrusions on the under side,what do these 2 little posts on the under side do and why the screw through the top of the sight??
