Cleaning Revolver Cylinder Front & Barrel Rear With new revolver and being a bit of a neatness freak, I like to see, after shooting, the front portion of cylinder and the rear of the barrel look like it did when I purchased. Understand that there are non-revolver cleaning products (flitz?) that you can use instead of vigorous scrubbing with brush. What is best, and how much and how do you use these products?

| Senior Member | waste s rosenthal: toothbrush with flitz, Hoppes with toothbrush, Stainless I presume. How much? What it takes is the simple. It'll take about 100yrs for you to wear the cylinder or damage it with cleaning. Rag will work, and patience with any product. To my knowledge there isn't anything that'll prevent the waste burn. Wiping it immediately after firing will help.

Billy, Take the cylinder out, place some flitz on a cloth, and put it on the edge of a counter or kitchen table. Then vigorously rub the cylinder on it, revolviing the cylinder occasionally to hit all the front. Easy with a S&W or SAA, have fun with a Ruger! Old cop trick to assure a fine looking weapon. Back when guns were always clean, leather was always polished, and uniforms were pressed.

Like Cold Queso, only I use a piece of lead wipe on the cylinder face, CAUTION if you have a blued pistol it will take the bluing of the cyinder face. Lots and lots of nitro solvent or solvent of your choiceand a bronze brush over the forcing cone. 762 works great but it has ammonia in it and will turn your brush green in a couple of days after using it.

See, I'm the same way. I like my revolver to look like it's never been used after taking it out. I use the brass brushes that you use to get in the small spaces of a grill. I've found that my cylinder face and around the forcing cone look great after a bit of work with those and standard cleaning kit solvent. I can get a set of 3 brushes for like a dollar. They wear out, but not insanely quickly. I also use them on the ports of my Taurus Model 608. I haven't tried flitz yet. May try it next time I take it out. - Coeloptera

A 1 inch square piece of Birchwood Casey LRC Lead Remover & Polishing Cloth is the best I found for cleaning my SS S&W 686 , It's fast and don't hurt the metal what so ever . I finish up with Flitz and a old T shirt . You can't get a better combo. You get the cloth from most gun stores.
