M40A1 where can i get one?

looking for a nice sniper rifle. Can i purchase an M40A1? If so where?

Note that the military M40A1 is a version of the Remington 700 rifle. You can get the Remington 700 in many excellent variations, including heavy barreled high accuracy versions, for far less money. You can also replace the stock with one made by any variety of companies, ranging from extreme custom to prices better than the factory. You can also install new trigger groups or have them or the factory trigger adjusted by a gunsmith.

I think you could put together an excellent copy of an M40A1 far far less money than you would pay for an authentic one. If you wanted anything a little bit different, it would be a piece of cake to put together however you like it.

If you're just looking for a high accuracy rifle, you have even more options with a wide range of highly accurate bolt action rifles. Savage is an excellent example.
