| Moderator ![]() | Completing the "Gun Whore Trifecta" this month, I just ordered a Steyr M95 carbine. Since I already got an M38 carbine Mosin and my backordered M38 came in today at SOG, I decided to get something else, instead. I searched the G&G forum with the forum's search tool and found NOTHING about the M95. I was a bit surprised by that. I did check world.guns.ru and surplusrifle.com, as I always do. Anyone own one? Likes, dislikes? Talk to me. |

| Member | My comments are neutral. I had a m95 some time back and never got around to shooting it (for reasons unknown). "Gun Whore Trifecta?" Good one! I have not purchased a C&R in over two years. I do have my eye on a SKYY m39. Believe it or not I keep talking myself out of it and my wife wants to know when I am going to go get it. Go fish.. |

| Senior Member | Mine is an accurate rifle although I don't shoot it often. Ammo is scarce and costly. Dies are cheap but new brass is even more costly.

| Mr. Fixit ![]() | Dale, FWIW, Graf's is selling ammo made by Hornady in boxer-primed brass and I think Prvi-Partizan is producing it as well for considerably less. Graf & Sons - Welcome

| Moderator ![]() | My shooting buddy just got his second M95 - the carbine this time. First one was the Stutzen rifle - looks like the carbine, but has longer rifle rear sight and no stacking hook. Both kick like a Missouri Mule - I put five rounds thru it last Saturday - then went back to my softer-recoiling M44 carbine! ![]() BE VERY CAREFUL removing the bolt. It's too easy to trip it off-cock and then it's a real bear to reset to reinstall it.

| Registered User | I have two- the Budapest 19" barrel carbine in 8x56R, all matching numbers, was apparently new and unfired when I obtained it. Also have a M95M Steyr, in 8x57 Mauser chambering with 23-1/4" barrel, all matching numbers, mint bore, but outside finish looks like it has fought across half of Russia while being dragged behind a tank. It is missing the forend cap which holds the upper handguard and lower forend together, and supplies the base for the bayonet stud. Would really appreciate ANY information fromn ANYONE as to where I might get that part. BTW, I don't find the recoil of either one bad at all from the bench. Graf's has new boxer-primed brass and the correct .330" diameter 205 gr. jacketed bullets for the 8x56R, and Lee sells dies and the correct size and weight bullet moulds for it. | Moderator ![]() | I ordered the 8x56r ammo from Cole Distributors. It wasn't real cheap, but still cheaper than other places I looked. SOG had the ammo on back order and sold out just a few days before I ordered. I bought four clips on ebay that should be arriving any day. The stock and metal are all absolutely gorgeous on this baby. I am still not used to a straight pull, though. |

| Senior Member | Dies are available, and Lee has a resizing die so you can take Speer hot core .338 bullets down to .329-works great. You can fireform 7.62x54R brass, or purchase brass. Makes the cost of shooting much nicer! Expect to install a taller front sight, the original sight is set to something like 500 meters. Nice, well made rifles, interesting piece of history, and the straight pull action is fast. I have cavalry(Steyr) and infantry carbine(Budapest) and infantry long rifle(also Steyr). The old nazi ammo does kick like a mule. |

| Senior Member | I love my steyr. I bought it on a whim because big 5 had them on sale. It and my k31 are the only lighter colored wood rifles i own, but i think they both look pretty. I took a risk when buying it because the bore looked gross (cosmoline), but now shines like a brand new silver dollar. next on my oddities list would definately have to be an original long steyr, if i can find one that isnt priced through the roof. here is the carbine, i think its a stutzen... ![]() speaking of steyr and wwII guns... Greeting from Germany!! its my first time out of the country, and i have seen some very cool and historic things in berlin. taken some wild pics, learned some things. its crazy how there are still bullet holes in things. |

| Senior Member | Definitely a stutzen. A friend with the long rifle tells me the extra weight of the long takes the sting out of it. He's fired the stutzen, and says he can see why people were happy with the ones chambered in 7.92mm. That Austrian 8x56 fired in a stutzen is a thumper! The 7.92mm version is not quite as bad.
