Well, I would think that around $500 or so for a poorer condition, to $700 or $900 depending on condition and markings, with or without bayonet, matching, etc. A quick search on gunbroker has them around these figures. They aren't cheap, but if you sell your PSL for somewhere in the middle of the range, then you ought to be able to find an SVT 40 with little or no cost to you. I have only ever seen 1 SVT 40 at all of the gun shows I have ever been to here in WA. If you do plan to buy on the internet, then you might get lucky if you can get someone to ship to CA. Now I kinda want one!

Well the rifle is perfectly legal here, and i have found people that do ship, but the problem is i pass them up!! ive found nice ones that i was about to buy but decided not too because of the price!! im kicking myself over it and obsessing about it.. so in order to make a payment id like to maybe sell my PSL, but im having a hard time deciding if its worth it.

What kind of PSL do you have, and is it worth it to sell for an SVT 40? It just depends on how much money you can get for it I guess, and if its something you really want to do. I wish there were a source for SVT40s here in WA, but getting lucky at the gun shows is about all I can find. If the price were right, I might have considered buying one, but they were quite pricey at the time I was there. And I had already spent more than half of what they were asking for their SVT40 on a Colt Trooper Mk III .357 Mag anyways. Well, maybe next time.

Yeah i agree, they are very rare to find, online is usually the best bet, ive never seen any around here either at gun shows, i only pass them up online because i dont like spending past $800 on guns over the internet that i can't hold before buying.. oh well im just gonna have to practice some faith.

I just sold an SVT 40 Fin capture normal mismatch for $1000 last May. I still have 3 or 4 including 2 that I shoot. While not my favorite rifle,I like them. I think that you will be lucky to find an SVT under $800. Sarge

If you want a shooter keep the PSL.If you want a collectors piece go with the SVT.Keep in mind the Soviets discontinued the SVT because of parts breakage.

In my opinion it all depends on what you want it for.If you want it for a shooter, sell the PSL.If you want a wall hanger, keep the PSL and save up. Oh,and Iron Colonel, my dad has a Colt Trooper Mk III.Only handgun I ve ever shot.Very nice revolver, too bad they stopped making them.

Alright, Ive kept the PSL, and started saving for a SVT-40, I have a guy locally that is holding one to sell to me once i get the funds. Im a little confused on bolt color though, i know some were plum color but others i see seem to be more gold color. Anyone know why theres two different?

probably a wartime shortcut. Most all wartime guns are differently made from peacetime guns.Just my 2.
