45 Win Mag Carbine

Not a very popular round, and I think it deserves better. It's a little more powerful than the 44 Rem Mag. It seems to have been designed for autos, being rimless. I'm thinkin the reason it didn't catch on is that 44 Revolvers were a mainstay and Desert Eagles eclipsed the LAR Grizzlies and AMT automags, neither of which were very attractive. But I think the 45 Win Mag deserves it's due in a pistol caliber carbine. Maybe that'll be where to start those pistol caliber carbines I occasionally talk about making and lacking the tooling and a complete design, haven't done.

There are some conversions to M1 Carbines, but I think a gun designed for that cartridge that wouldn't be ruining a gun with the M1 Carbine's history could be more attractive. If I'm correct, it has the same base as a 45 ACP, so maybe it could use interchangeable tilting/swinging barrels of different weights to fire both calibers in the one gun. Maybe the 45 Mag could feed through M1 Carbine mags and the 45 ACP out of 1911 mags?

Good idea? Bad idea? I think it would be a good carbine for hunting everything the 44 can, and for home defense and law enforcement. Range without the overpenetration of rifle rounds.

45 WIN MAG

I HAVE 45 WIN MAG AND 50AE M1 CARBINE CONVERSIONS . I LIKE THE 45 WIN MAG BETTER BUT YOU KNOW YOU HAVE FIRED IT AFTER ABOUT 20 ROUNDS OR SO. THE 50 AE DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME SHARP SLAP BUT IS MUCH LOUDER. THESE CONVERSIONS ARE QUITE SOMETHING FOR A M1 CARBINE.

A Mech-Tech .460 Rowland Carbine conversion fits right on top of a 1911 frame. .460 Rowland gives about the same performance as a .45 Win. Mag. with less case capacity.

Very interesting on the 460... How do reloading costs compare? And how's the Rowland shaped?

Slightly longer than a .45ACP, but not too long to fit in a 1911 mag...heavy duty brass like the .45 Super. It's hot. I will post the range results through my Mech-Tech Carbine soon.

I have an M1 carbine, but I don't want to convert. I have the Thompson/Center Contender in .45 Win Mag. I've loaded cast bullets from 200- 320 grains with excellent results. the 320 muzzle velocity is 1326 ft/sec.
