Yo Doglips! Got me a Hi-point Carbine!

Finally took the plunge. The gunshow had 'em in black, chrome and the new Camo. I chose the camo - reminds me of a camo-painted toy Tommygun I had when I was a kid.

The camo color is actually molded into the plastic stock - Kewl!
Boy, changing from the open rear sight to the scope rail is a royal pain on these things! Thought I'd never get the two crossbolts to line back up.
Trigger pull seems a bit mushy, and I'll probably try to foam-fill the stock later for stiffness.
The sling mount position they tell us to use isn't that great either - wonder if I can switch the stock screws around to the other side?
Putting the sling on the right side just doesn't seem right.

Got four boxes of Federal red box ammo, and will also try my favorite 9mm UMC from W-Mart. I've fitted it with a Norinco 4X scope - good little scope for .22's, and should work well for a 50 yard carbine.

Any tips for how to clean and lube this baby? Any pitfalls a Hipoint Newbie should watch out for?

The sights on the Hi-point are certainly worlds better than that danged Kel-Tec abomination. Can't wait to shoot this cutey against my buddy's KelTec Sub2000!

Very compact, too! It's about four inches shorter than my new IMI M1 Carbine. Almost like a big pistol. I think I'm gonna like this little critter.

I knew a deputy sheriff who carried one for a patrol carbine. Ugly as heck IMHO, but was accurate and effective for patrol applications.

I do like that camo though...maybe, just maybe I'll buy one at the Gun show on Sept 6th that I'm gonna go to in Bowling Green,OH. Ain't been to a show in 3 years!

Yeah, this vendor had pretty good prices at our gunshow. Figured it was "now or never" time.
Another vendor thought dearly of his stuff. Had both a CZ52 and a CZ70 - each priced at $180! Highway robbery, for sure.
Gotta really hunt for the deals these days. Even the hotdogs were way over-priced!

I didn't get to shoot the two new carbines this past weekend. The rains came.

Next weekend, I'll kill some paper.

There are a few single stack hi-cap 9mm mags out there that I wondrered if they or the Hi-point could be adapted to mate. That would be 100% legal as long as the mags were still able to function in the original gun. Another thought I had was to drastically modify (one of my trademark terms) the grip/mag well to accommodate a double stack mag like Ruger, Browning, Beretta, or Taurus.

But I never fired, much less stripped one, so I dunno how exactly, but its design is crude enough that a bolt here or there wouldn't be too awkward. Maybe salvage a ruined frame from a hi-cap pistol and install it.

Now if BattleRifle's imagination and Hi-Point merged, then we'd have some fun with injected polymer frames (something I've never worked with, for which the facilities are too big and expensive for the home machinist). If Hi-Point thought like Kel Tec, designing their guns to use common pre-ban mags, they could make a killing, hopefully not literally though. Hi Point keeps saying they're coming out with a 40 caliber carbine. I have yet to see it. I'm growing very impatient.

Hay Big dog..sory for the delay..dont realy check most of the forms very often.....The Hi-Point carbine is realy a simply little thing....some had adjustable trigers (check your instructions to see if you do)....the carbine likes about any ammo you feed it. The only problems is that sometimes the front sight bolt comes lose...just tighten it or use lock tight on it.
Cleaning...Takeing the thing apart is a major pain and realy no need....only moveing parts are fireing pin, bolt and triger relase....simple blow back design....lock the bolt open...clean muzzle to chamber with rod/brush/patch and your choice of cleaner...I use a toothbrush to clean out the bolt face..and the feeding / ejection area...wipe it with a cloth and then oil it. Same with the magazine.

The sling should switch sides..but Im a lefty so did not change it.

Some people swear they get great groups at 100yards....Im only getting good hits at 75 and under.....with a 4x Tasco Scope....I realy want to but a red dot on mine.....with +P ammo 100yards would probly work....it is +p+ rated.

I filled my stock with fiberglass resin not realy impressed with the results....now heavy as heck and no real help in terms of accuricy.

To take it appart and clean it...read the instruction...the lack of moveing parts inside it makes a AK look complacated...so simple and has to work....I got soem articals and t-shirts from Hi-Point will have to get the web sites off them..some L/E mag gave the carbine a great review...as did Gun Test.
