| Talk to me about Hi Point What can anyone tell me about Hi Point? I have been to the site, and seen the pictures, but how well are they made? What model/caliber do you own, explain their construction etc... I am really curious about these guns. How do they stack up to Glock or other Polymer handguns?

| Did some one call my name??????? I own the 380acp, 40SW (New Modle) 45acp both old and new polymer, and the 9mm carbine.....only modle I dont own is their 9mm pistol. Carbine I call it the planet of the apes gun....it r ugly.....with the exception of wolf ammo I have had NO jams, failure to feeds etc. With a 3x9 Scope I have had solid 3-4" groups at 75 yards with Winchester target/plinking ammo ($10 per 100 wal-mart ammo)...some people swear its good out to 100 yards but I did not have much luck killing soad cans past 75. The carbine and pistols works with hollow points, +p Cor-Bon and even my just learning to reload cast lead bullets. With Iron sights (goast ring) I suck at ranges beyond 50yards (but Im blind in one eye and getting old in the other)...with a red dot scope the carbine rocks on Silhouette targets out to 75 yards. 380acp....wifes "chair" gun...keeps t in her chair pocket...cleaning it has been a bore brush, bore swab and a patch to wipe out the feeding ramp...no feild striping (which on a Hi_Point is a royal pain)....about 2000 rounds through it so far..no jams no problems....bulk makes recoil non existant. wifee poo loves it...others who have shot a few mags through it enjoyed it as well. I have the old modle (purchased used) with non adjustable sights. 40SW Polymer (new style)....200 rounds of Winchester plinking ammo from wal-mart...no jams....realy should clean it one of these days....took it out of the box...loaded and fired....comes with a Ghost ring site and v sight on the rear...floresent orange night sights....I kept the old fashion V notch on it....Ghost ring comes in a baggie with the tool....sights fully adjustable....I felt the recoil was sharper..kinda of a a snap compared to the 45acp...the 45 is very mild....my 13 yr old daughter and a co-workers 13yr old son kept shots in a paper plate area at 15 yards....I get about 3in groups at that range. 45 ACP New Polymer....I love this pistol...over 3000 rounds shot in less that 6months...Cor-Bon +P to reloads....I tried the Ghost ring sights but just did not like them...with V notched after adjusting with 185grain swc reloads the think keeps shots in the 9-10 ring of a shot N See 8" target...off hand. It mis feed with wolf (2 x out of 50 rounds) and Blazer 3x out of 50. The gun loves loads hot +P hollow points, cast lead, ball dont care like the energiser bunny keeps chuging along...with low power re-loads I can actualy feel the slide go back. 45acp Old style (mainly a good example of how they keep on going).....I purchased this gun used...it is actual marked Haskel (who makes Hi-Point 45acps for MKS)...tossed it in the trunk of my car in a shop rag....never cleaned the thing...blasted with it at the range..back into the trunk...may some wd-40 now and then sprayed inside it....did this for several years....finaly feild striped it.....no worn or rusted parts...dirty from sand and powder resadue...but still working with no problems. Some things I have learned. 1. They do not rust...I live in Florida near the beach....my dog rust when he goes outside....but the alloy (belive zink alloy) they use does not care one bit. 2. There are almost no moveing parts...the think is so simple it cant help but work....On the top half only moveing parts is the slide and fireing pin....extractor is fixed in place...blow back operated....nothing to not work. On bottom half is the sear and some springs...but the think makes my AK look over enganeered. MKS (Hi-Point) IS OUTSTANDING in terms of customer service....I played jr. gunsmith on the carbine stock and messed it up....called MKS with debit card in hand....they said stock No Problem we will send you one out today for FREE...but I messed it up...Hi-Points dont break..stock broke...we send new one. I lost (me not them) the ghoast ring sight for my 45acp...set it some were...called no problem sir....ship it today for FREE!!!! Down sides. The guns are ugly...untill the new modles (40 and 45 poylemer) they did not have curves...like a leggo gun....blocky....the new ones are not much better....the Carbine chargeing handle bolt looks like it came from a hardwear store....yep ugly and funky looking. People who never shot one...or shot 1 or 2 rounds at the range .... look down on them....gun snobs snicker (see NRAJOE About customer service....look at my quoats below...I have delt with Taures, Ruger and NEF....Taures was ok, NEF slow but friendly...RUGER SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Customer service is rude, could care less and since my pistol is being sent back 1 more time friaday or monday (Its spent more time at the factory than at the range)....and Handloader magazine had an artical that the brass getting stuck is a KNOWN And HAS BEEN KNOWN defect in the cylinder metal....but still sending them out....go figure....I lost the artical but went to wal-mart today and got another copy of the magazine to send in with the Ruger Super Redhawk...... Last think GUN TEST Magazine Rated the Hi_Point cabine a better buy than the Ruger Carbine....check MKS Web site for the PDF artical. |

| Super Moderator ![]() | http://www.gunsnet.net/forums/showth...ht=point+slide Includes a report of a pretty serious failure of a Hi Point. [quote]Dont get one of these pistols, I have seen some malfunction big time. They are cheap, and not made to shoot too many rnds. I saw one on about 200 rounds shear off what ever holds the slide on, he went to the hospital with most of the slide imbedded in his eye. [\QUOTE]

| I never owned or shot a glock..know someone who has a lawsuit aginst them...lost part of a finger to it fireing out of batter...course the dude is a goof ball and may not be glocks fault...still. Can also point out the now shut down "Glocks Suck" web page that talked about Glocks fireing out of battery.... http://www.glock-guns.com/qa.asp?mnf...&PageNumber=62 Or that someone "do you own one of these" pointed out a recall of Glocks...point being that there have been more recalls and problems with big name toys than Hi-Points. |

| Super Moderator ![]() | I was only adding that review to the comments listed to get a balanced view on them. Not claiming to know more than others, just including the bad with the good. Most Glock problems have been identified and the solutions are known, some in design, some in ammunition choice. Maybe the same is true of Hi Points.

| A few minutes ago I was looking at the Hi Point web site. Those hand guns are not ugly. If those prices are correct, they are not expensive. The carbine is a little different, not ugly, and it was not love at first site, but I would not mind having one. John :assult: :target:

| Did not see any recall..warnings on their web page....I do know they stand behind their warrenty....so IF their is a problem I dont see why they would not anounce it and fix it. |

| Senior Member | well i bought a .9mm compact about 3 weeks aco and it came witha realy bum clip so i called high point and they sent me a new one (it took 3 days to come in ) frome the time i called them to the day it came in the mail. as for looks i like the way my .9mm looks it don't look bad at all .the older modles look realy bad .but the new one with the adjustable rear sights they look pretty good and as for accuraccy i'll put it up against any compact it does the job at 15 yards just fine although i only shot about 200 rounds through it (no jams with the new clip) it groups consistent so i know any misses is my fault and not the gun |

| Senior Member | i don't think that they would have any recalls on thier gun's . they work fine they are simple guns and they do the job of those high priced guns that do have all them recalls(snicker) |
