Thanks for the welcome

Thanks all for the welcome.

I really enjoyed my 6 years in the California Air Gaurd 129 ARRS they are now a Wing. Started in the 214 Mobile Combat Communitactins Sq. Started at Hayward Airport then moved to Moffett Field. Came down here and had to drop all that fun.

Gun ownership here is not that difficult. Cost are pretty steep. More Shot guns than centerfire rifles, a lot of 22RFs as I see it, any way that is if you are looking at what is on the shelves. A box of 50 22RF HV cost 18 Bolivianos or about 2.30 Dollars. I quit buying Winchester because they missfire a lot more than the Remingtons. One Phonix 22 auto they wanted 222 dollars for but the internet price was $129. We get a lot of Latan American Manufactured firearms. The quality is really low. Rossi is top quality compared to some of the weapons I've seen. And yet for the most part metal product from Brazil is about as bad as Japanese steel of the 1950's. Yeh! I know no one remembers that far back. Guns are supposed to be registered, but I'll put dollars to donuts 60% are not. I've been looking for a .32 SW long for a while but ammunition does not exist here. Powder for reloading is hard to get and I've only seen shotgun powders here which will work for hand guns in a lot of cases. Primers only a few and again shotgun. The Military seems to be the supplier for reloading supplies for the practical shooting reloaders.

We have a local chapter of Practical Shooters. They reload a lot but then they shoot a lot. 38 super auto is used a lot but then so are 9mm. I like the 38 super and feel it would be good for selfdefense, It is really like a 9mm Mag. There is a group that shots Olymipic style.

At this point I have not a single firearm in the house. Until a week ago I had a borrowed Marlin Papoos M70. Great for throwing in a back pack and plinking viscachas ( super big ground squirrel) or rabbits. It was not very accurate, I could at about 25yards (paces) put 7 holes in a 8.5 x 11 sheet of bond graph paper. Marlin should make it in a 357 maxium and sell barrells for 357 Mag, 38 Specials, 256 Win Mag and 224 RC Max.

When my friend came by to get back the Papoos he was carring a Glock. First time I've had my hands on one. I did not shoot it but it felt top heavy and the hand grip seemed very short. I guess it takes getting use too. But then I have this dislike of plastic where metal should have been, like car bumpers. Glocks are not plastic it should be call some other hi-tech name like carbon-fiber.

As to hunting in Bolivia, Deer are here but very few in the highlands. The ranches in the lower areas have the most of the larger game. Javlina or mountian pig, a few andian bear they are listed amoung the spotted bear, but look to me more along the line of the collared Himilian bear. Not really big, and seem to live alone. I've never heard of two in the same area, nor have I seen one, only pictures. We have a real small deer the has like two antlers that look like long teeth, but the taste is great. Jaguar, Oclets and a couple other smaller cats, but all are protected, but that has not stopped them from being hunted.

Fishing in the major rivers is really good. Fresh water stingrays, dolphins, 100lb catfish, and a lot of types that are really regional, but good eating.

I hope to have time to read a lot of the posts. This group of forums is good. I did not entend to use so many electrons. This did get a little long.

John

Anyway....welcome......enjoy and I hope you can tolerate us long enough to enjoy this site.
