45Colt and 45ACP. A stupid question...

I know that the 45Colt is longer than the ACP, but I have had really no dealings with them
So, this is a stupid question I guess.
If I have a rifle that shoots 410ga and 45 Colts, can you shoot ACPs out of it as well?

Technically you could but you also have to deal with the issue that a colt has a rim and the ACP doesn't

I didn't know that about the rim. If you did shoot it I guess the shell would get lodged in there, and you would have to use the cleaning rod to back it out.

another option is to use the 45 Auto Rim in a 45 Colt

Yes its a 45acp but with one difference it has a rim so it could be used in the 1913 Colt 45 revolvers it can also be used in modern revolvers requiring moon or half moon clips -- you avoid using the clip because the aut rim has a rim that can rest against the cylinder.

Exclamation

If you want the best of both worlds, Ruger has reintroduced the Blackhawk single action revolver in .45ACP/.45 Colt. Each is used in a separate cylinder.
You can have the greater power of the .45 Colt load, or the cheaper cost and wider availability of the .45 ACP.
I wish I hadn't sold mine years back.
In this gun, the .45ACP case headspaces on the case mouth.
