9 mm iver johnson

I have a 9mm Iver johnson M1 carbine. It was brought in for repair because it wouldn't retain the magazine. 4 years later gun parts listed a replacement magazine sleeve. The mag fits into the proper opening but rather than change the casting of the trigger guard the mfg sleeved the opening with a plastic insert that wasn't with the weapon when brought to the shop.

Is that 9mm Luger? Never heard of an M1 in that caliber. Sounds pretty neat. Does it use the original mags?
