.357mag

Why isn't there a carbine in .357mag? And are there any conversions?

There are plenty lever action rifles as well as single shot rifles chambered in 357. NEF/H&R and Rossi made them for awhile. Marlin makes lever action 357's, thats just a couple. I am sure there are more, I just can't think of them at the moment.

An AK has a similar rim size to the 357. Question is though what would you use it for? I'm the biggest fan of wacky caliber conversions and stuff that hasn't been done before, but I have to admit that I'm having a hard time coming up with good reasons for a company to invest in making a 357 Rem Mag semi-auto.

44 Rem Mag, which is much better accepted for deer hunting, has a semi-auto made by Ruger.

Many moons ago I knew a guy in Houston that was working on converting M1 carbines to .357, but he never could get all the bugs worked out. A few years later I heard he had died, and his gun hatin' wife took ALL his guns to the police to have them destroyed. IMI used to offer the Timberwolf. A pump action carbine in .357/.38, that I believe has since been discontinued. Now-a-days, about the only offerings are in lever actions from Marlin, and I think Winchester.

Don't get me wrong-the 357 is an awesome cartridge, and is very proven. I am a big fan of it, be it revolver or rifle. But for a semi-auto I personally would just assume have a 7.62x39. It was designed with that in mind. Not to say that it wouldn't be cool, but it's nice to have "just a little more" in the Russian round.
My 2 cents for what it's worth.

Le Mag made M1 Carbine conversions in .357. I have a 45 Win Mag and a 50AE by Le Mag

Thumbs up

IMO, Ruger is missing a golden opportunity in not offering a .357 Magnum version of the new Deerstalker (or whatever the new .44 Carbine is called). Lot's of guys would like it. I would.
I'd also like something like an M1 Carbine conversion using the .357 Desert Eagle magazines.
My .357 Mag handloads (158 grain soft-point) clock at 2000FPS in a Rossi Puma 18 inch lever carbine - plenty of grunt for a close-up deer!

It is tough to make a semi-auto work with a rimmed cartridge. Ruger did it with his carbine, but not every gun manufacturer has a Bill Ruger on the payroll.

IMO the Marlin .357 lever is a great gun. Loads of fun.

I wish someone would make a .357 semi auto. That would be a fun gun to shoot.

I think the idea of a pistol cartrige in a carbine has been around for a long time. Cowboys and adventurers wanted to be able to carry one kind of round for either firearm. I would love to have a .357 auto handgun and auto carbine. I know I can do it with the Baby Eagle, and I am just waiting for the Ruger .357 auto to come out.

I don't think a Ruger 357 Auto is going to happen, unless you know otherwise. And the 357 Rem Mag isn't in the Baby Eagle, but the full size Desert Eagle.

Dang, I will keep hoping. And thank you for the correction on the Baby vs the regular Eagle. I don't know what I was thinkin'. Hey BRG, How about rebarreling an Eagle with a 16"bbl and a folding stock?!?! How soon can you make one for me? LOL

Here is something, Now don't get me wrong, I believe in 357 mag. over the 357 Sig. Hands down, but Mech tech offers a Glock conversion for the Glock 22 40 cal. and I think one for 357 Sig.

Another thing, HELLO MAGAZINE DEVELOPERS, The !!!-ault weapon ban is over, Why Is there no High Capacity Mags for the Ruger 44. Deerslayer. If they made bigger mags, I would own 8 of the dang guns. (and would be broke, but it would be worth it!)

At least in the older version of the Ruger 44 auto you could hold over 4 rounds in it. It loaded up like a shotgun. I always thought that was a cool setup too.
