Does anyone recomend them or not? Has anyone shot one? Looks like fun.

I haven't shot one myself, but a feller at our range brought one a couple years back. He was having fun, and it seemed to shoot pretty well. It doesn't look as close to a true AK as the European-made Armi-Jaeger AP-something.
There is also a rare version in .22 Magnum - only a few made it into the States.
