New to guns

Hi Everyone

I'm new to the forum and fairly new to guns. I was recently given a small gun collection 20 or so...... rifles, machine guns, shot guns and hand guns. I have no idea of there worth. I plan to keep just a few of the guns..... maybe a 22 rifle, 12 guage and a 410 but that's probably it.

Can someone tell me where I should bring them to maybe find out there worth? ....... or can I post pics and any of you tell me what there worth? I'd like to sell them but I don't want to be beat on the prices too bad.

Beth, post some pics if you would like. be careful getting advice over the internet. Mooseman, I have no reason to think you have bad intentions but then I don't know you, nor does anyone really know anyone else on a forum or internet connection. I would not trust just one person. Post your question and get feed back from the group. If someone is trying to pull a fast one it will come out pretty quick from the group.

No offence Mooseman, I just think she should be careful about what advice she take from a PM. Your statement makes me a litte suspect.

I do not think your post is necessary as we have seen MM give very good advise and I for one do trust him 100%.What I dont trust is someone that warns people that everyone else is out to get them.It would be almost imposible for MM to pull a fast one when he is sitting way up there with his feet frozen in a glacier waiting for Gore's global warming to rescue him. sam.

Your collection of firearms is gorgeous. FYI, that Thompson should fetch you $800+. The Bushmaster is in the same price category.

I would trust Mooseman's advice. I have no reason not to trust him.

I can go through these a little later and get some solid prices. Be careful who you get price from (outside of this forum, I don't think anyone here would try to rip you off).

Especially be careful of Gun and Pawn shops. A gun dealer that sees a women walk in with a hand full of firearms and little knowledge of their value will start to foam at the mouth.

That's a fine collection you happened upon. Not that anybody on here is untrustworthy, but you really need to get those appraised by someone in person that can judge the condition of them. You can only get somewhere in the ballpark from photos.

If it were me, I would go into a well known gun shop and say that you need an "Estate Appraisal". Tell them that you are not looking to sell, just to get a value on the guns because they are part of an estate. I had to do this myself when my uncle passed away and the charge for the appraisals was very minimal. Some of those guns do hold a lot of value, so it's worth paying a little to get an accurate appraisal. Whatever you do, don't take them to a pawn shop. They are all about the profit. Try to sell them privately if possible. Might be worth it to set up a booth at the next gun show in your area as well.

Wow! Where'd you get all those from? A relative or something? Me, personally, I'd be hard pressed to let ANY of 'em go......well, maybe the Raven .25 auto....

Oh yeah, as advised, stay away from pawn shops and dealers at gun shows. Those are the two fastest ways to get cheated out of hundreds of dollars on each gun. Be very cautious about selling any of them, don't just start taking offers. Whoever you got those from invested thousands of dollars there, don't sell 'em for pennies.

If you plan on selling any of these, can you PLEASE PM me? I would be interested in perhaps purchasing a few from ya. There are a few outlets on the net (auction/sale sites as well as some other forums with classified's sections) which you can use to sell these. If you try to put them on consignment with a dealer in your area, you are in for losing a lot of cash. Because of their "finder's" fee. Transfer to a buyer should be through an FFL, however. But don't use an FFL to market & sell them. Transfer fees are about $15-$30, whereas Consignment fees can be upwards of 35% of the total sale.

congrats. on collection, Im a newbe also and look at daily post just to see replys. MM & Sam I find very helpful + others. I like the idea of having them appraised for estate & insurance value should give you an idea of value could be in thous $$$$.
