Thinking of buying a Beretta CX4 Storm

Hello everyone, I am thinking of buying a CX4 in 9mm or 40. I own a beretta 92 fs, so the magazines should swap between the 2 firearms, right?

I am looking for a rifle that can be used as a small game hunter, or even up to wild hog size targets. A couple of times a year I go on a camping / hunting trip. Usually I bring my Bushmaster ar15 in 223 or WASR-10 AK-47. But I would like something with a little less "boom" to it then a rifle caliber.

For deer I use a Remington model 700 BDL in 280 / 7mm express. So I really do not see using the CX4 for whitetail deer hunting.

I want something I can take on a camping trip to the deer lease. If it gets wet, covered in sand or mud, I not want to worry about it.

Some deer pictures for your enjoyment. And yes, I took all of these pictures.

The top picture was taken last year (2006). This is an 8 point buck and was shot with a 270 weatherby. This was an evening hunt, the deer came out just minutes before dark. After being shot he ran into a pine thicket, where I spent about 45 minutes looking for him.

Deer grazing behind the stand.

Has anyone used their CX4 for hunting hogs or coyotes? What about conditions? Has anyone had their CX4 out in the rain, sleet or snow?

The last time I went on one of these hog hunting, camping trips the temps were just above freezing with misting rain. So I need something that aint gonna rust up when a little water gets on it. My Marlin 30-30 will start getting surface rust on it just a few hours after being out in the rain. The AR and AK are a lot of tolerant to water and rust then the 30-30.

This thread sounded like something a mall ninja would post, so I decided to include some pictures and videos to back up my claims.

I had a cx4 in 9mm,not bad,but for hogs I 'spect the .40 would be better.
Looks like you are doing quite well in the hunting department, congratulations!

Kev thanks for shareing your videos with us. That 4 wheeler sure beats walking does'nt it.
Though I drive up ramps to load my 4 wheeler I never get on it and back off.
I release the hand break and then pull on the back rack to get it started going down the ramps and then I reach up and grab a hand break and ease it down.

Thanks for sharing the vids. I've never shot the storm but I'd say it would do well for small to mid-size game in a 40. I'm not so sure of the 9mm. Personally, if you wanted a pistol caliber rifle for hunting, I'd go with a .44 mag lever gun (carbine) like the Henry Big Boy or a Marlin 1894. Good size, easy to carry in brush and good bang for its size. I don't know about shooting small game (rabbits, hare, squirrels etc) but I've heard of these guns being used to hunt everything from coyotes to elk. Its even used as a PDW for bear country as these things are good against grizzlies and smaller species too. Just my 1/50 of a buck.

Just so you know, that's going to be my next purchase.

I've never hunted with my CX4 but it makes a great camping gun. Mine is the .45ACP version. My husband was gonna put the red dot and the grip on it but after firing it, we decided that it was cheating enough to shoot it the way it was. That CX4 of mine is one of the most accurate gun I own.
