I shot this nice 8 pointer last year with my Winchester 1894 in .44 magnum. The deer weighed in field dressed at 180 lbs.

Not with a .357 Carbine, but did with a 9mm Carbine

I would have no fears that with good placement and reasonable range, the .357 would put any CA animal down.

I generally like to carry my .44 1894, but a case of 'lever-lock' has kept it safe-bound for the last 2 years; she is going to the factory to be retimed.

That writer Taffin wrote an article a couple years ago stating that the Marlin 1894c in .357 mag. was the most versatile rifle he was aware of. In particular he noted that out of a carbine barrel, the .357 has momentum similar to .30-30. A revolver in .357 produces a big fireball in from of the muzzle. In a rifle, all that burning gas adds to bullet velocity.

I took this 11 pointer this week at 130 yards with my Marlin 1894 Cowboy, chambered in .44 mag. He dressed out at 226 lbs. The last three deer with it were at 60 yards, 80 yards, and 180 yards.....
