I have a mated caliber pair, those being 44-40 in a lever action and a revolver.
The one I wish I had to match my .357 is the Timberwolf .357. Does anyone happen to have that rifle or the Marlin? Can you tell me anything about it?

Reason: Double post
Mated pair? I thought for a minute that there was constructive procreating going on here. I have never heard that term used to describe a rifle and pistol. "Companion guns" is what my crowd have always called them. Maybe "mated pair" is better. Sounds a little less gay...
I have a (matched) pair of Ruger Vaquero revolvers in .357 Mag, with a Rossi (Braztech) also in .357, that I'm going to try to get to mate with one of the Rugers. Probably get a litter of .22s.

Then maybe you should delete this thread.
And leave the the one in Pistol Cal Carbines open.

I would have already done that if I knew how to delete it. Can I do it from edit or is there a delete function right in front of me?
Go to edit.
And then click on the delete thread button.
Just put something in the "reason" section. (double post)
Hope this helps.

I've heard it called "common caliber," "matching caliber," and "shared ammunition." To me, a matched pair is a pair of pistols that are set up the same with consecutive serial numbers. A mated pair is a couple of monogamous birds who have mated for life.
If you want to consider a set of common caliber guns, the only one I have is an Auto-Ordnance Thompson M1928 semi-auto carbine, a Llama Model IX-A, and a S&W Model 25, all in .45 ACP. Interesting set, eh? Or should I call it a menage a trois?
Latigo, my brother in Houston has the Marlin 1894, the Ruger GP100, and the Ruger SP101 in 357 Magnum. His Marlin is the earlier model before they had a safety on them, but was in 'as new' condition' when he found it on Gunbroker. It shoots very close to POA with heavier bullets like 158 and 180 grains. He has since put a low power variable scope on it that would surely help me with my diminished vision. I would not hesitate to use it for hunting at reasonble distances with proper bullet selection. They are really nice lever guns.

Most certainly. One more .45, and you are the owner of an orgy of .45s!

I aint lugging around a rifle that can't do anything that my pistol can't. My idea of a rifle worth carrying is an AR-15, with a .22lr conversion unit. then I can handle 1/2 mile sniping, 400 yd varmints, match shooting, 200 yd deer or pronghorn, shtf, small game with the .22 unit, indoor ranges with the .22, teaching novices with the .22 unit, and so on.
Let's just let it run. There are a lot of replies already. I've got a few rifle/handgun caliber mates... and believe they make sense. Just like they did many years ago.
