It looks like it also holds the bullet to keep it from turning around and around,have not seen any 22LR that the bullet cant be turned with your fingers.As a kid there was some Winchester HP that I believe had something explosive inside the HP and waxed over,remember shooting blackbirds and all you found was feet,wingtips and maybe a head if you looked hard enough.Shure worked good on varmits and ground Squirels.My pesty squirel comited sueside today on the road,wife said she threw him in the ditch so now I cant try my SWC I made for him,burns me up !:laughing:

I remember a while back on here when a guy had a tool for making .22 LRN into hollow points, just a small drill.
