Locked Threads

I see a lot of threads get locked. Many of which do need to be locked and it is obvious why they are locked. However a lot of other threads get locked when they seem harmless and in many cases very informative or just a fellow member needing to vent. Can I suggest/request that when a thread gets locked that the person who locks it makes the very last post saying why the particular thread was locked? That could stop a lot of miscommunication and bad feelings. Many disagreements, arguments and even wars aren't over a difference of opinion but over a miscommunication. A simple one or two line explanation of why the thread was locked could inform everyone and save a lot of bad feelings.

+1 Agreed. We are family and deserve at least a short explanation.

It's been covered/asked before and the end result is that a moderator, nor Chris, has to or will explain themselves.

The direction that the thread was going wasn't good for the website and the moderator, or Chris himself decided to close it. They're not nor should they have to explain why...

Anytime you come to a thread that has been closed, simply tell yourself it was probably closed because it or someone broke a forum rule. Because if they ever did post an explanation why, that would be the one they'd most always post...

Threads usually get locked for several reasons...They are either misinformation , Turned into a name calling arguement, something that degrades or could be detrimental, or inflammatory to the forum or some of its members, or something that is finished and needs no further discussion...
Complaints and problems need to be privately discussed between Members and Mods so they can be resolved, and keep the forum positive...

That was my thinking. No need for a long detailed post. Just a short one or two line saying something like "Topic violates rules" or "Untrue information". Many people might do something wrong not knowing it. Information is the most valuable commodity in the world.

I dont think that the mods or Chris need to answer to anyone. That was never my thinking. They are who they are. But I do feel as Gary said, that sometimes rules are broken and someone may not understand it. A thread was closed awhile back that was a little heated, and I dont know if something I said caused it to get closed or if it was the other posts or combination of. I love G&G and the people here, and never have the intention to upset or offend anyone. Has it happened, probably. I know that if I crossed some line somewhere that I would like to know it, so I can avoid making the same mistake again. Mistakes can not be avoided if someone doesnt know or understand that they made one.

I think everyone should have at least one post locked per year just so they don't feel left out.

I personaly would like to see an explaination to why a Thread is locked. Reason being it might help remind members and new members to refrain from makeing the same mistake that was made that get's Threads Locked.

I also think it would add to the professionalism of this web site. Contributing members would probable appreciate it the most.

I usually give the reason that i lock a thread but some of them or so obvious that every body should be able to tell. and if you can't then may the poster should reread the do's and don't's of the forum, they are quite easy to understand even for a dummy like me.
